Having recently read a child called it again after finding it in my attic lol i was compelled to search for more books like it. so being naturally curious i went on the internet to find said books. what i found were numerous debates stating that dave pelzer was talking bull and that he made almost all of it up. I really dont know what to believe...what do you think??

me neither. but what his mother did was so sad. she just like snapped one day and started doing bad things to him...and he was so young!

one of the saddest parts was the part where his mom (i dont think i sould even call her that) shoved i spoon of ammiona down his throat and made him throw up the hot dogs he ate like 3 days before. then she made him eat the half digested hot dogs in a dog bowl.
    :(

"A Million Little Pieces" by James Frey

I doubt the veracity of a book such as "A Child Called It"

jus as u read all the horrific things that have happened, i cetainly think to myself...why in the hell would someone want to make something like that up.
i do however believe that he will have filled in gaps with a few stretches of the truth but the main things like the stabbing and ammonia/bleach bathroom tasks will be real....suppose we shall never know though

well my opinion kinda changed, you know how when you get into a fight and win you exagerate the story to make it sound better, to make it sound more interesting? Im sure he didnt tell the complete truth, but im sure he didnt make it all up, you have to be very sick to make somethin like that up

I think that some of the things that were said are true, but I believe that alot are put in just to get the reader more ensnared in the book. I've also read "A Million Little Pieces" and there has been a ton of controversy on that one. I don't know what to believe based on what I've heard about that book, but it might be the same as "A Child Called It". I guess the author will truly know the truth.

I would hope, simply because of the horrific things that took place it were untrue, simply because the thought of another human being having to go through such trauma, especially a child is awful. I read this book when it first came out and found it really hard to read something so graphic. Pelzer must have had first hand experience to write to vividly.

I haven't read the book but it sounds good/compelling. Like alot of people have pointed out here i believe almost all auto-biographies have been altered a little bit, to either hide certain facts (drug use, partying, etc) or to make themselves sound better or even in this case worse off.

He didn't make it up. Sadly, stuff like that happens all the time. People abuse their children because they have problems. I just heard of this case in England where a women and her boyfriend were sent to prison for abusing their child with cerebral palsy. The little girl had to sleep in the bathroom and they wouldn't feed her and it was horrible. It's just that not a lot of people come foward and admit that they've been abused.

    hm

well i knew nothing about this so I was reading about it...

Well stuff like that DOES happen all the time.

But what makes me dis believe it happened to him is the fact that he is sucsessful and writing a book about it.

I mean... seriously people who are treated like that as a child have serious mental problems. End up killing themselves/other people/ doing other crazy stuff.

And the comment that said why would someone make that up...

people make up stories like that all the time. They just sell their books under fiction.

I mean look at all the crazy psycho movies coming out these days.

Not everyone who is abused end up going mental. He did end up having emotional problems from it because if you read Lost Boy he has trouble being social and in A Man Named Dave you'll notice that he has issues being in a relationship with women. I'm pretty sure he's had some pretty intense therapy over this.

I just came accross his official website

and you know.. in my opinion... and mine solely, no offense but he sickens me. If it is true. He really does sicken me.

I mean... I look at his website. and its almost like he is proud of it. He has become rich and famous off of this and he is milking it.

If I were him I would rather forget something like that. Or at least live with it, become strong and move on.

Indeed. You would think he would just leave it. Cope and move on.
