I. Introduction The object of the game is simple. Break the code in a set number of attempts. The 'code' consists of rings and symbols, where you have to align each ring in the correct position (position is determined by the symbols). The game gives information after each attempt with lights. A green light means a correct ring is in the correct position. A yellow light means a ring is in a position another ring should be in. NOTE: The row of lights does not correspond to the column of rings. First green light does NOT mean the first ring is in the correct position. II. Basis Do not look at the puzzle as 'rings' and 'positions'. Instead of focusing on the whole ring, just focus on the top colum and its symbols. The default should all be blank. III. Strategy GL = Green Light YL = Yellow Light There are two methods in solving these puzzles: The hard way: A. Line up the column with the first symbol 1 1 1 1 No Lights (No 1s are in the code, change all the symbols): 2 2 2 2 1 GL (Assume the first position is 1 and move the other symbols): 1 2 2 2 ----- 1 GL (1st position is 1 and no 2s are in the code): 1 3 3 3 ----- 1 YL (1st position is not 1 and no 2s are in the code): 3 1 3 3 ----- 2+ GL (1st position is 1, assume 2nd position is 2): 1 2 3 3 Using this method until you go through all the symbols...works. Now, a little bit more logically thinking is needed when there are six symbols and you get a GL and a YL. Just remember to eliminate as many variables in one try as possible. Here's an example of a puzzle(brackets is what we learn from the lights): 1 1 1 1 1 1 - No light 2 2 2 2 2 2 - 1 G: (We know theres a 2 in the code) 2 3 3 3 3 3 - 2 YL (Theres a 2 & 3 in the code, 3 is in 1st position) 3 2 4 4 4 4 - 2 GL, 1 YL (2, 3, 4 in the code, assume GL is from 2) 3 2 4 5 5 5 - 2 GL, 3 YL (2, 3, 4, 5, 5, 6 in the code, GL is not from 2 or 4, assume 5 is 4th position) 3 5 2 5 4 6 - 3 GL, 3 YL (Now it's just guess and check) 3 5 2 5 6 4 - 4 GL, 2 YL (4 cannot be in 2nd or 3rd position, we assumed 5 is the 4th position, thus we now assume 4 made the extra GL) 3 5 6 5 2 4 - 6 GL Confusing, yes? Thus, we have our second method: The easy way: B: Just go through a column of each symbol once and note the lights 1 1 1 1 1 1 - 1 GL 2 2 2 2 2 2 - 2 GL 3 3 3 3 3 3 - 0 GL 4 4 4 4 4 4 - 0 GL 5 5 5 5 5 5 - 2 GL 6 6 6 6 6 6 - 3 GL Now we know what numbers the code consist of: 1 2 2 5 5 6 Should be easy to solve now. If you still do not get it, just guess. On the third puzzle, you have 9 tries remaining after going through each symbol. There are 720 combinations, which means you have 1/80 chance of guessing right. :lol: IV. Conclusion I don't think anyone needs to guess on this. Just find all the symbols that are in the code and just rearrage them by looking at the lights. I beat the first one but not the others. Does the puzzle restart if I left before completely finishing it?
Good guide. I have been using the easy way the whole time, but it looks like your hard way would be very effective too.
