Not even oil. If it were about oil we would have been looting the oil fields by now. It's about distracting people from what they are doing to screw us over here in America.

    I really have to disagree.

We may be more powerful, but we sure aren't the smartest. (Duh, I don't need to explain to you that G. dubble duh Bush is president now). Smarts over brawn any day.

Currently, no there's no cure for HIV. There might be one, but not for a long time. I've taken biology this year and learned that this virus is always mutating so they can't create a vaccine. Also, the genetics of HIV is different than normal, it changes from RNA to DNA, unlike DNA to RNA. Finally, HIV attacks the cells that are supposed to protect your body from viruses.

Given time, I reckon almost any type of illness will be curable. It will probably end up being completely flushing the body of HIV cells and using stem cells or the like to replace them.

Actually, that sounds like a good idea :p

That really wouldn't work though, seeing as HIV is not a cell, it's a virus. Much smaller than a cell. It works by attaching itself to a cell, then it drills into the cell and replaces the regular cell's DNA with it's own and causes that cell to make more viruses, then the viruses are released and they attack the other cells.

yup hiv is a retrovirus, hence the constant mutations, i think the key to the cure will be in the persons own cells and not to try and attack the virus...we may not find a cure before the virus itself dies out though but either way, gone is better!

    ^^

I very much doubt that the EU will become the super power. The UK isn't stong with europe at the moment and is one of the only countries in the EU that a. has power and b. actually acts on things. France will never rule, Germany wouldn't dare after the war and a lot of European countries are pretty damn poor. It is obvious that the USA's time of power will soon be over though purely because no one likes them xD UK was an empire but wouldn't control the world again, Russia collapsed and China is destined for that as well. Who the hell knows who will be the next super power but unless the US elects a president who isn't mentally challenged they are screwed.

Wasn't someone diagnosed with AIDS and then was tested some time later and found to be negative? And it wasn't a test error. I remember watching it on the news.

Even though there are no cures currently, there are 5 ways that I know that scientists are studying that help prevent the HIV virus from turning into AIDS. For you to understand this you might need some knowledge of biology and how cells work and are designed.

    1. Monoclonal antibodies act by blocking the receptor on the T helper cell. If case you didn't know HIV attacks the very cells that protect your body from viruses. These cells are known as T helper cells. The virus gains entrance into these cells by docking at the receptors.

    2. AZT and DDC are believed to interrupt the revers transcriptase enzyme so the viral RNA cannot be transcribed into viral DNA.. When the HIV virus gets into the T helper cells it's genetic information as RNA changes into DNA. Almost all viruses change from DNA to RNA.

    3. Amantadine is believed to prevent the AIDS virus from uncoating. Uncoating is when the genetic information in the virus is unleased to go and take over the host cells genetic information. This prevents a virus making factory from being created.

    4. Ribavirin is believed to interrupt the production of viral proteins. Once the virus takes over the host cell. It creates parts for more viruses, but this process screws up the proteins which make up the genetic information of the new viruses.

    5. Alpha interferon is believed to slow down the release of viruses from the cell membrane. When new viruses are ready to be released this slows down what's happening.

All governments hide things from their country. As horrible as it is, they very well could have the cure for AIDS or even cancer (aside from chemo, and hoping you go into remission)....

But regardless, in the past there were many diseases with no cures at the time, and years later they came up with highly effective vaccines. Heck, polio and smallpox are nearly completely eradicated.

I think it'll just take some time.

time until one of these world leaders becomes infected with something like this or cancer.

Then if they did have a cure it would be pretty hard for them to claim to have had a miraculous recovery...

I highly doubt that if a government official were to contract HIV, they'd make a public statement about it. They'd probably say he came down with something else, had to medically resign, then give him the cure and let him live out his days in a less spotlighted life.
