So who here has read the manga death note?I started and finished reading it last year, to great satisfaction. What really drew me into it was just the amount of thinking that's involved in attempting to capture "Kira", and the thoughts that run through Kira's head. The deductions and conclusions that are made just by little things were amazing. I thought it was one of the better mangas that I've read.
L's character was my favourite, he was such a quirky character, eating sweets and ice cream during serious meetings. And Misa Misa annoyed me too much, and Light only saw her as something to be used. Which I suppose Misa didn't mind. In the manga, it wasn't shown what happened to her at the end. But in the anime
    she commits suicide
The anime was really well done. I really enjoyed it. There were a few differences, but Madhouse did a pretty good job overall. There were a few added scenes, and the intro and outros were pretty cool as well.
I haven't seen the movies though, does anyone have any comment on those?
http://behindinfinity.deviantart.com this is probably the best Death note cosplay I've seen. You should check out the other pictures.
On another note, Ive read that school kids have been making their own "Death Notes" and putting other peoples names in them. Like their teachers.

Though I found Death Note really interesting and different from other mangas I was reading, I can't bring myself to completing the it. What is holding me back is probably how I simplify Death Note. I think of it as a run-on Story that keeps finding ways to keep it going (though i know it ends). It's basically L and 'Kira' going back and forth out trumping each other and out witting themselves. So after having enough of the L - "I'm a step ahead of Kira" and Kira - "I'm a step ahead of you L" I stopped reading it.

    Just my .2 cents.

How far did you read into Death Note?
Because if you read further into the series, you'll find that the out trumping stops.
I did find the bit where the Death Note "falls" into Corporate hands a bit boring though.

I stopped during the corporation thing, I guess that did it for me as I felt the same way as you did. I'd also like to state, I'm not saying its a bad manga b/c it's really only what I thought about it. Any advid Manga reader will like this too, if there up to more reading. Unlike some other Mangas I've read like (claymore, bleach, naurto, and samuri deeper kyo.. etc).

I'm sure I'll be bored one day and start reading it again, but i don't see that day insite since classes just started up again.

    I watched the anime only.
    Stopped watching after the incident.
    DON'T LOOK BIG SPOILER

When L is killed, I said end of story for me.

I loved it until that part and then I was like, meh.
Might read the manga because it's probably way better.

Heheh. I'm a fan of Death Note. I kept reading to the end but after
L died, I really just kept reading because I wanted Light to get want was coming to him. I had the greatest satisfaction reading the ending. Bye bye Light.

The movies aren't as good at the original Manga or the Anime. The character who plays L is great but the character of Light comes across as really weak and not convincing. I had a hard time trying to believe he was really all that intelligent wheres Light in the manga/anime just emanated intelligence and power-mania.

Death Note is surely one of my favourite manga.
I don't want to read previous replies to the topic 'cause I'm afraid of any spoilers T.T
I've read first 5 tankobon, and I'm going to read as soon as possibile (maybe today) the last published here, the 6th. I've also all the anime episodes, but I watch only the ones referred to the story I read yet^^"
However didn't find the movies subtitled in my language yet =( anyway from the pics I've seen, it doesn't seem so good... especially Raito (Light) .__."

I think this manga is bright! And a lot of ethical/moral and philosophical/religious themes are involved... but my poor English skills aren't good enough to explain what I think about it >.<

Great anime. I watched all the episodes. It was really violent, and gloomy though. So unlike, say, Naruto. The good guys don't always win. I liked that.

Hahaha, most realistic! Shinigami!! I do think it's a very logical piece of work, and yeah, the most realistic it can be in an unnatural and unrealistic situation!!!

i loved it.. its wonderful :p

finished the movies, the manga, and the anime.. just about everything lol
the manga and the anime had the same storyline.. the ending left me a bit confused though.

i like l too, and thats why i loved the movies' ending the best of all :yup:
    thats because
l dies by writing his own name, for the purpose of revealing kira! such a great sacrifice... he dies such a peaceful death, and only after kira dies. unlike in the anime where he is killed by the stupid death god rem..

could you tell which group subs the anime/movies?...or rather a group that hasn't dropped it (has it been licensed?)

and that's some amazing cosplay :)

DeathNote is one of my favorite Mangas/Animes it is compelling, interesting and full of action.
The only thing I dont like is that L is always on Lights trail... I hate that I wish that sometimes
the bad guy, well not really bad guy, would have his way. :)

Oh man! Death Note is definitely one of my favorite mangas to read. Not only is the plot interesting, but the artwork itself is amazing!

For the anime, I believe that they're working on a special coming up soon about L... is it out yet?

edit: oh nevermind. that website above has it. thanks!!
