Yet another topic debated in recent years...

What do you think; is homosexuality biology or is it a choice? Why?

Once again, let's keep it clean!

Note: If you can't give a reasonable reason for what you believe and why, don't bother posting or voting. It's a debate board, so let's hear what you have to say. Also, there will be no flaming of others for their beliefs or opinions!

Both? Can you explain that a bit more?

I'm not sure I understand how something can be a natural and a choice...

By both I mean both are possibilitys. It's obviously not going to be both at once, but someone could become gay through just developing an interest for the same sex. And people can be born gay (problem with chromosomes).

Okay. I was just curious what you meant because I thought that you mean both, at the same time..

i Think its biological, because alot of people have the homosexual tendency, but they can choose to ignore it or go along with it. So technically the root of it would be biological for alot of people, and they make the choice becasue of the biological influence. Whether this is true or not i'm not sure but it makes sence to me.

I don't think you're born with it. I believe it has to do with the way you grew up and what happened in your childhood. So, for example, the more older brothers a boy has when growing up, the more likely he is to become a homosexual. The same can be said if the child was molested or sexually abused.

Choice. I believe this because homosexuality was never something in nature. It's not natural. My mother didn't even know what gay meant; it's a newer idea that at the least wasn't well-known or widespread.

Homosexuality is not a "new idea". It's something that has been around for hundreds of thousands of years. There is evidence of homosexuality in ancient art work and writings. Shakespeare, Plato, Da Vinci, and numerous others of histories "Greats" have commented on homosexuality in their writings, created art work with humans engaging in homosexual behavior, and some even are believed to have enganged in homosexual behavior themselves.

To call homosexuality "new" is quite simply false. There is far to much history and known works to disprove what you said, and if you still believe that I am lieing to you, I can link you to a dozen articles proving what I've said said above.

I believe homosexuality is biological. I don't believe anybody chooses to be gay/lesbian, but I do believe that, as others have stated, the way a child is raised in his/her earliest years can have a significant effect on their sexual preferences as they grow older. Hell, there is even evidence and studies conducted on animals and their sexuality. Yes, even many animals have been studied and have been found to engage in homosexual behavior.

Mind you, I am not homosexual myself.

Well I think it's biological because most of the time when you ask someone if they're gay they'll just say "I've always felt that way" but you also have to keep in mind that sometimes abuse can cause the sexuality to change. Like if a woman has been victimized by men so many times, she'll turn to women.

There's a couple reasons. Probably they're experimenting with the opposite sex to see if they're truely gay.

    Because they're in the closet

It's hard to explain this without making an ass out of myself, but I'm going to try. Sometimes it just hasn't hit them hard enough yet. My friend was dating girls but he never felt atracted to them but he dated til he was 16 and after many failed relationships he "realized" that he was sexually attracted to men and that's why he never felt comfortable dating girls.

I don't think it's a choice. If that were true anyone could suddenly decide "hey, i want to be gay". I myself am not attracted to women and I don't see how I could choose to be.

As for people who have dated the opposite sex before coming out, a lot of it has to do with pressure to fit in and be normal. I'm sure even in this day and age it's very hard to be a homosexual and some people might think it's easier to deny their true feelings in order to prevent the problems that come along with coming out.

As a side note, there was a episode of American Dad on not too long ago that was about this very thing, lol. The dad decided to try and be gay but when it came down to it he couldn't have sex with the guy. :p

i think you are born with it miost of the time. if you look at most gay people, they exhibit similar characteristics (facial features, voice, walk). a small amount choose to be gay. these are the ones who you would never suspect.

Because they have been raised thinking that homosexuality is bad. Most parents do not tell their kids "hey if you're gay feel free to go date guys" and actualy mean it. Some may tell them that, when it is still obvious they would overeact if the kid was gay. Parents tend to raise their kids telling them that they will one day get marryed to someone of the opposite sex, and this forces ideals upon the children.

Being Gay is no more a choice than being straight...

To prove my point... if you're straight... would you sleep with only people of the same sex??

If you're gay, would you sleep with only people of the opposite sex?

What I'm not sure about is bisexualty, tho like a lot of characteristics we have, some could for lack of a better choice of words... swing both ways.
