so my friends got on this topic at lunch and had us a nice heated debate about if it would even happen or what you would do if you saw it coming in like a week :)

to get some good info go to http://www.rense.com/general61/dee.htm it has some good info and cites nasa journals directly so it can give you a good background...

i personally am not religious so i'm kinda with nasa when they say it's there and the whole 1 in 30,000 cahnce to hit earth. Although they do say it will come back and hit us in 6 years they say it is only a quarter mile wide(400m or 1321.75ft) and it will hit in the mid atlantic. When the asteroid does hit it isn't large enough to cause any considerable damage to us as a species and from my own speculation will only cause tsunamis that will devastate the coast city's. One thing my friends mentioned is that it will supposedly incinerate us, but i honestly think that they got this mixed up with our sun exploding in a couple billion years.

What do you think? Are you honestly worried? Do you believe that God will save the world and only give the illusion of the world ending?

We are always coming up with new things that are going to wipe out the human race I'm still waiting for SARS to kill us all and Bird Flu and global warming and global cooling and a nuclear holocaust leading to a nuclear winter and gay marriage (hee hee). No seriously we all keep thinking something really big is going to happen but i never does and the more technology we have the more things we find that are going to obliterate us all. I wonder how many times the earth has been in a similar situation but because we didn't have the technology no one knew about it.

    Earth...but no, seriously, Toronto
Well I'm no scientist but if it does hit, we'll probably have enough notice ("hey look! it's a quarter mile wide asteroid heading our way. lets just sit here by the sea...")
to evacuate people from areas in danger (with some exceptions). as for the incinerating the human race...I think they're going to need a bigger asteroid for that...and some way to make asteroid's incinerate people for that matter, since i would think that asteroid's would burn while passing through the ozone but wouldn't be on fire when they land on people and just squish them (but hey, im no scientist like i said)

    TO DA MOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOON!

*ahem* But seriously, tracking meteors and asteroids has been a very big project over the last bunch of years. Lots of new research for this type of technology is being funded quite heavily, as it might be a much more dangerous and immediate threat to our existence than things such as global warming and all kinds of other crap that people are PMSing about these days...

but if we move to the moon...

the earth is destroyed and so the moon has no gravational pull towards the earth and then what?

hey dude i heard that it was gong to happen on dec. 21, 2012 because that is when the Mayan Calender ends and they have predicted like a ton of stuff so they have some evidence of it. You should search it on Google it is pretty interesting.

God will not save anything, If he didnt save jesus then he wont save us lol... Anyways this is bullshit.. If there was a big asteroid going to take out the world I doubt they would even tell the world.. Everyone would go into a chaos.. People would start killing people and stealing all that stuff.. Cause honestly ur going die anyways why not go wild before you die ??? So i think it would be kept silent.. but thats my theory no 1 has to beleive it..

So if you were about to be obliterated, you'd rather not know about your impending doom and just have it happen? F*** that s***...Dumbest opinion ever

I believe that we as a species will survive.

If we hear that a comet is going to hit us in a month or so, I'm sure everyone will go crazy. NASA will gather the top scientists from all around the world, and everyone will cooperate. Then we'll create some device to destroy the comet, or at least redirect it.

    Which means we'll survive :)

As I said in my previous post...there is a lot of money being put into research that will allow us to avoid asteroid attacks...so while it does sound like Armageddon, it's very feasible

Yeah, according to the Mayan Calendar. I don't see that happening though.

I don't see this happening neither.

The world will end as we know it but not necessary in a bad way.

And even if the comet/asteroid comes and the world gets destroyed it cannot possibly kill everyone. Even if 1% of the population survives, it can rebuild itself in 1000 years.

I doubt that this is gonna happen. I mean, someone will always think of some wack idea, but most of them never happen. I still haven't been killed by a group of angry christians and I haven't been s*xually harassed by a priest...
