The book was far, far better.

I mean, it's admirable that they make these kinds of things into movies, because it draws attention to them, but Neil Gaiman's genius cannot be captured on the big screen.

I suppose that the movie wasn't too shitty. Meh - I've seen worse adaptations.

Have you read the book? If not, I highly recommend it.

Oh, and they could not have picked a worse person in the history of people than Dakota Fanning. What a - well, suffice it to say that what I'm going to say is /not/ nice.
I detest her "acting." How skillless and annoying can one get?

I loved the book, & I was really look forward to the movie, though I haven't seen it, yet.

I'd like to see what more people who've read the book say about it.

    *pokes original post*

Though, I suppose that I am probably biased. There are very few movies that I have ever seen that were based on books that I actually enjoyed.

The movie detracts from the point of the story. It's saddening.
The animation is really good - best part of the film.

I always agree on the book more.
But I heard it's actually more chilling than it seems.
I'd get scared reading it >_> Cuz I usually read stuff before going to bed.
I'm sure the one on film was meant to be enjoyed by the whole family. *shrug*
i watched it and it was great and that's that =P
i'll consider readin it tho..I was so close to buyin the book until I realized i'll read it and never touch it again so it'd be a waste of 20 bucks.

If you enjoyed it, that's all that matters. I mean, I suppose that that's what msot people judge things on - entertainment value.
    I'm just different. :)

Though I really do think that you should at least take the book out of the library...it's not all that long, so you might be able to finish it and get into a quick reading of "Green Eggs and Ham" to perk up the spirits. =D

And you're right - it's fairly chilling. I'm just into that kind of stuff, so it didn't bother me at all. The problem is when yout hink about the symbolism...

    Yay for multi-layered literature!

Can someone give us a small plot summary?
For those of us (like myself) who haven't read/watched it.

    Here's a quick summary:

A girl named Coraline moves into a new home, and discovers a hidden door. Through that door is a parallel universe that - at first - seems to be a lot like her home world. As time passes, she decides that it's actually a better world, until the dream turns into a nightmare and she's not allowed to leave. The Other Mother wants to keep her there forever, and change her into an Other creature. Things get creepy - trapped souls creepy - and Coraline has to do her best to escape.

Not the most articulate, but it will get the general idea across, I think.

And I've decided that there could have been someone worse than Dakota Fanning. Miley Cyrus. That would have been /dire./
