I'll have to pick Band of Brothers for this one. Really breath taking scenes with a strong dose of realism that life is cheap on the battlefield. I remember a specific scene where the company was sitting in a Church after a battle and the soldiers who died just disappeared right there one by one leaving probably about half the company that was still alive. The mortar, rushing, flanking scenes were very intense. There were also many memorable and unique characters such as Major Winters, Lipton, Speirs, the loser Lieutenant Dyke, etc.
For this I'm going to say Valkyrie, though I really haven't seen all that many war movies. It had awesome action scenes, but it was completely believable, and since I didn't know much German History I really thought that they'd be able to succeed...and I have to admit that I cried at the end when the main character died, it was so sad...and it was so noble when, right before General Stauffenberg was executed, his lieutenant stepped in front of him...even if it was pointless... Oh, that was an awesome movie. If you haven't seen it yet, I'd recommend it.
War movie, does this include faked wars with fantasy storylines? If so, the Underworld series. If not, Band of Brothers (takes hourrrssss to go through the series xD).
I'm pretty sure there's another one I like better than Saving Private Ryan, but the one that comes to mind is that. can't go wrong with a Tom Hanks movie.
yes LOTR is definetly a war movie, the battle in ROTK was amazing.....if i didn't read the book Aragorn going to get the ghosts would have made no sense to me.
I'd go with either Lord of the rings or Star Wars...not sure if Star Wars is a war movie, but still...
Rambo 1-4 Die Hard 1-4 Easily the best in the action genre. Easily my favourite films.. I could watch them over and over again.
Saving Private Ryan for sure, Full Metal Jacket is another excellent one. I dunno if Die Hard can be considered a war movie, but they're definately action movies and definately excellent. I hated Valkyrie though, it seemed so slow and the plot seemed stitched together, the writing was dreadful and the acting didn't make up for it.
Saving Private Ryan, Letters From Iwo Jima, Full Metal Jacket to name a few... <3 war movies Didn't like band of brothers though... just didn't find most of it to be very entertaining.
As far as war movies go, I'd have to say its a tossup between Gettysburg and Midway. Both great war movies, and historically very accurate. I think. [...]
hmm.. this is a tough one.. i haven't seen band of brothers or valkyrie yet which is odd since i absolutely love war movies.. while i was at MEPS last week i got to watch a war movie called "the thin red line," kinda ironic how something like this would be playing when people are getting ready to join the military during times like this but anyways back to the main point, thin red line has to take my vote on this because of the realism of the movie they really make it seem like youre there experiencing whats going on, check out the movie sometime but also some of my other favorites include saving private ryan, behind enemy lines, and black hawk down
