Warning: As far as I know you should not be able to permanently kill your Iphone/Ipod touch.. and also you'll void your garuntee doing this... I wouldn't post this if the chances you'd kill your ipod touch are real... but still you never now, I don't garantuee you anything...

So first if you've ever heard about jaibreaking and don't want to do it for some reason or if you've never heards about jailbreaking before, read this it kind of tells you what you'll get if you jailbreak:

Ok? Your doing it? Well... I will just link some decent guides and tell you what you want to get when jailbreaking.
And I just read.. only jailbreak if your Itunes is nt on 8.2 yet... I will update this as soone as 8.2 is no problem...

Again don't do this if you updated Itunes to 8.2 so far...

Now just one thing.. when you jailbreak make sure you install cydia.. I don't like the other installers, just take cydia.


What to install when done jailbreaking


First on the list is winterboard... makes your ipod look like

There are tons of other possibilities.. You can just install themes via Cydia and activate them with Winterboard or you can loke here:

for your dream theme, or you create one yourself

Some other things you'll want:

• SBsettings (I love it, read the more information tap)
• Openssh
• Fontswap to change your system fonts?
• Quickgold
• RotationInhibitor for SBsetting does the trick... (with that you can keep safari from rotating...)
  
• Oh yes you can also get cracked apps. Just go in cydia , "manage", "Sources", "edit" and add cydia.hackulo.us. Now install Installous... And now your able to test pretty much every Iphone app prior to buying it.. otherwise you will often end up buying some bad apps...
  
  
• There are also emulaters for the Ipone and Ipod touch the source should be already added to cydia, if not add "http://cydia.zoottd.com/repo/cydia", Get GpsPhone, then you'll have to get the bios and the roms you'd like (google is your friend) SSH into your Ipod (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u31MZ8vgHuU) and put the files in the right directory (when you start gpsphone it will tell you where to put it)

I fairly sure you can't just put some coding on your room to snaz it up though. Try putting headers and center the guide.

So I got the winterboard - I just have a problem.. when I open winterboard, it's just blank. And everytime I try to download a theme for winterboard, it doesnt work

Can it have something to do with SSH? I saw people talking about it somewhere, have no idea what it is though.

EDIT: okay, I figured out the SSH with help from the guide, but I still dont see how it can help me with my themes :/
Im pretty stuck. I think I need summerboard, but I have no clue how to get it on my phone

 

You do not need summerboard... hmmm let me think you said you installed winterboard correctly and when it opens you get a white screen... that is pretty odd... Could you screenshot that for me? Also about ssh... You need to get the themes, for instance from the ipod touch forum and put them into the right directory on your Iphone (/Library/Themes)
You do not need summerboard, summerboard was for Firmware 1.xx Winterboad is the new Summerboard
When you open Winterboars you should have a white screen with names on it... one saying saurik for instance, tap the name and press the home button and you will see that you just activated you first theme...

Did this a while back. Just wanted to let you all know, IT IS WORTH IT. Even if all you change is adding emulators, YOU CAN HAVE MOST GBA/GBC/SNES GAMES ON YOUR IPOD.

 

If I jailbreak my ipod after I sync it, then sync it after its jailbreaked, will I still have all my stuff/.plist's?

 

I wanted and Iphone but instead had the nokia n96 i hacked that got the whole certificate setup so i could sign all apps then bang it stops working so back to ebay it went! what a mess around still on the look out for another phone though!

 

Whenever you sync your Ipod Itunes will usually automatically make a backuo (if not tell Itunes to do so) If you then jailbreak (again Itunes should not be updated to 8.29 and after the Jailbreak you give the Ipod the same name it had before Itunes will ask you if you want to sync the backup over... (that is when you use something like Pwnage)

For the 1G ipod and the Iphones if you jailbreak with Quickpwn you normally (if everything goes well) won't loose any of your stuff...

But again, you can make a backup with Itunes with which you can pretty much make sure that even after haveing to recover the ipod you'll still have your stuff on there

 

I recently just reverted mine back to normal. Having it jail broken got old and I hated the tethered redsn0w.
