Don't you think the media goes a little overboard with some events. Like the recent Michael Jackson thing, I haven't been able to turn on the News without seeing anything about him. It's so annoying, don't you think? Share your opinions...

Just the other day I was watching CNN and it was all Michael Jackson stuff, then I glance down at the ticker to read:
    "Three troops killed in Iraq"

Wow, really? I don't get it, how can one's life be valued above others who are actually trying to bring change to the world? Not that I agree with Iraq, I think it's complete bullshit that the American Army is still dealing with an international "affair" that had no direct connection to them. Interventionist much?
But still, these people are trying to bring about change, and prosper, and they are placed second to a superstar who's been dead for two weeks now?

    It sickens me.

It sickens you that the media is talking about one of the greatest entertainers of all-time death? Okay...that makes sense. Also, whether you want to believe it or not the media does value some people over more.

Obviously you don't understand my point.
Michael Jackson may be one of the greatest entertainers, but should his life be put on a pedestal above those who are trying to bring about change? You seemed to have missed that, but I'll forgive you.
And yes, it does make sense. Look at Farrah Fawcett's death, she was inspirational, motivational. Michael Jackson was the same, but you know what? A disease killed Farrah. A disease she had no control over, but chose to advocate and help install hope in everyone around the world that with high spirits you can beat anything.
Let's compare the two, shall we? Michael Jackson obviously had a drug problem, if people are too blind to admit that, then they need to re-evaluate their hero's. Ultimately, believe it or not, he brought about his death by years of drug use - including some like diprivan which is NOT a prescription medication! Soo, let's look at this entertainer... he fits into the celebrity-fuck-up list pretty well!
Then there's Farrah, a woman who's disease killed her, and her life and death have been overshadowed by a drug addicted, once great entertainer who's life was spiraling out of control.
    That's cool.

So yes gregoden, it does sicken me.

I just feel bad for his kids. Yeah, MJ was a freak, but I don't think his kids should have to see all this. The kids should at least have a good image of their father, rather than a "pervert child molester".

    1) Media sources are total BS, remember to take everything with a grain of salt.
    2) He's still less significant than other famous people who died before him (it's not nearly big as the whole Princess Diana death).

Lol they ended up discussing the media question on the daily show Dx (oh John Stewart <3). So now do you know what you gots to do, that's right, go out and start committing HORRIBLE crimes, cuz no one will remember it because MJ is dead . Here's my challenge: go out and commit a crime that can overpower the media over MJ's death.

Wow, this is really bull...they're still raging over his death. When will this really shut up? I mean, yeah, he was an artist that was famous. Big deal. Doesn't need to waste my time for TV. I could've been watching better stuff than "Exclusive". My parents were all into it too :(

I'm growing tired of hearing endlessly about MJ. It's tragic how his life unfolded and it sucks that he left his kids behind, but it's time to move on.

Actually, it kinda gets annoying because I believe MJ died because he was a drug addict. Yeah, it was kinda caused by himself. But, other people's deaths are being like overshadowed; a lot of other people are dying. Just because Michael Jackson was a little more famous then troops being kidnapped in Iraq, Steve McNair, etc. doesn't mean those people have to be ignored :nope:

I completely agree with the fact that MJ shouldn't be reported more than other people dying such as American troops, Farrah Fawcett, etc., but as well I think they should just put the story to rest.
First it was his death, but thats expectedly reportable. Now it's turning into his will and estate, his children, and the fly on the wall. His kids are probably traumatized! They don't need the media poking their noses into their lives right after their father has died!
Like really, he's dead. No amount of airtime on CNN is gonna change that, and its really not necessary to publicize who gets what. I think they should just bury him respectfully, mourn a little, resolve to keep on living in honour of him, etc., and then move on.
I'm not trying to be disrespectful at all; i'm as sad as the next person. But in the end, life goes on without the King of Pop.

Lol, there's not been a day when a person hasn't died. So, if the media treats MJ and mourns everyday, then what's the difference with all the other people that didn't deserve to die? Lol, I'm still seeing MJ...I just went to Wal-Mart today and saw a whole pile of magazines on him. It's the first thing you see...

The media is nothing but a bunch of capitalists who will show anything as long as viewers will watch and their rating shoot up. They have no kind of moral fiber or good intentions. The media is one of the most powerful social institutions but instead it is used as simply a tool for making money.

Michael Jackson was a freak. Someone who is decent doesn't get multiple alleged accounts of child indecency. Yes... rich people can get some crazy threats... if that is so, why hasn't many other millionaires been accused of molesting children? Why has this one 'scam' been held exclusively for Michael? Probably because he did it.

Well, I totally agree with you on the media, but a little harsh on Michael Jackson??

I mean, I think he was kinda picked on because nobody really knew the reason he had to bleach himself and stuff. Nobody really knew Michael Jackson well enough to make fun of him. He had a skin problem, that's why he bleached himself white. Although, he did some very controversial things, and he was an addict. There's no point in denying those...so, I'd say I would have mixed feelings on him. Child molesting part, I've seen some "tape" of him hanging his own baby over a railing for the crowd. So, that might or might not have been true.

They also started questioning his sexuality and who his eldest son's real father is. I mean, what is up. The guy just died! He can't have some peace?

Although, what if he actually wanted to go out this way?

I mean, the media does it all for the money. If the fans think negative of him, then media puts out all this bullsh*t...if fans like them, all this positive stuff comes out. And, it is one of the most powerful influences...

    yea, totally agree.
when he was alive, nobody gave a crap how he was doing, and ppl thought of him as retarded.
after he's dead, the media goes the other way and say how he was so great and influential and ... its just for the money.

    Absolutely agree.
But that's what sells, so that's why they do it. A lot of people (a bit of an understatement :p ) like MJ, so more people will tune in to watch about him.
    It's annoying, but it's economics.
