A Complete [Idiot's] Guide to the Neopian Secret Laboratory by Vivvian What is the Secret Laboratory? The Secret Laboratory is a very "rare" place. Many people have heard about it, but have never seen it for themselves. It's always the veteran Neopians who've seen and have access to this "legendary" place.Today, we'll see what this fabled place really is... The Secret Laboratory, is owned by this guy pictured below... Mad Lab Ray Scientist An obviously demented Scorchio who's been alone for far too long. He built this "mystical" device to keep him occupied, and with the rumors going around about it.. He'll have plenty of company. Now, keep in mind, this "holy" Ray isn't as good as people make it sound, should you venture into the Laboratory, you may regret it once you drag your weak and fragile pet out. The Ray is a combination of good and evil, just because you gained four levels or your pitiful Bruce got transformed into a Jetsam, doesn't mean it'll happen again.. Next time around, your pets level could be reduced back to Level 1 or your powerful Darigan Aisha turned into a useless Blue Chia.. Use at your own risk. What Does It Do? The Lab Ray can have various awesome effects or extremely disastrous results. Here's a small list of what this unstable device may do.. Color Change Species Change I'm serious... It will happen. Gender Change Girl to Boy and Vice Versa (See Source 1 for information below in italics.) Your pet can gain or lose levels (2 levels at a time) Your pet can gain or lose strength points (2 or 3 points at a time) Your pet can gain or lose defence points (2 or 3 points at a time) Your pet can gain or lose movement points (2 or 3 points at a time) Your pet can gain hitpoints (2, 3, 4, or 5 points at a time) Your pet's level can go back to level 1 (if your pet is level 20 or below) Nothing happens Please Note: What the lab ray cannot change your pet into is an Ice Bori. The Ice Bori is a special Neopets Promo only pet. Other than that the Lab Ray can do any color, except Usuki, Quiguki, Royal, Pirate, Plushie and Baby. This was confirmed in Neopets Magazine #4. Also Note: You can NOT get Draiks or Krawks from the Lab Ray! This is so you won't get a rare pet by a lucky zap when others have spent millions.. ( Thanks to Elite/Jon! ) Now, some of you are probably thinking that your don't wish to risk all of your hard work just to see something cool happen. I agree, then don't just save up and save up until you can afford the pet of your dreams. Yet, if you're like me at times, willing to risk it all, then please, follow along. Now, to those of you who have nothing to lose, I bet you're wondering, How do I get to this Lab Ray? Well, just be cool, I'm getting there. Where Is It? That is a mystery. The Lab Ray isn't for little noobs who offer 1000 Neopoints for access to this "magical and pwnsome" place. You're going to need to save up for access to the Laboratory. There are nine map peices that need to be purchased and stored within your Safety Deposit Box until you've bought them all. The estimated price on the Trading Post for the whole set will range from 860,000 to 1,350,000 Neopoints. So, be prepared to spend.. Here's each peice that you'll need to purchase. Unfortunately, it'll be hard to keep track of.. Seeing as Neo didn't number the damned peices, you might accidentally be buying the same piece twice, so pay close attention to which ones you are buying. Once you have all nine pieces, within your inventory of course, you'll need to go here to assemble them. http://www.neopets.com/games/treasure.phtml?type=lab WARNING! If you click the link, and your map is assembled, it will remain there permanently! You will no longer be able to sell or trade it, it's there for good!! Is It Worth it? This is your personal decision, no one is going to sue you for not buying it from them after asking for a price.. Well, a noob would report you for lying/scamming.. But that's just the way Neo is now, ruined by noobs. Anyways, think about this simple question. " Why do I NEED the Lab Ray?" Once your answer that, you'll have your question. Most people answer like this, " I want better stats!" or " I want a rare pet with an even rarer color!" Like I said earlier, could you live knowing your hard-earned Darigan Draik turned into a useless along with hideous Blue Chia? Just answer that, then you'll know whether it is or not. Rewards...?! Oh, wow, cool guide. I'm guessing most of this is common knowledge, but it was still entertaining to read and nice to look at. Keep up the good work. I like looking at all the pet pictures.
Thanks. :3 It is common knowledge, but I thought it'd be nice to see all the possible results you could get from the ray. Plus, having all the images and whatnot would be a good visual guide as well. :3
Well, I think it would be nice to know if it it "worth it" in your opinion... Does the lab usually pay out or do you don't think so?
It depends on what you're after, in my opinion. If you're after a rare pet color or a rare pet, then no. You'd be better off saving up and buying a Morphing Potion and/or Paint Brush. However, if you're after stats, it's worth it in the end, while you may have your pet zapped back to Level 1, the stats will eventually add up.. That's only my opinion though.
wvurascal, I know that. However, I'm saying based on my personal experience.. It states that in the guide.
Good guide--nice blend of text and enough pics as to note 'bore' readers. The only other thing I could recommend is possible give a heads up as to how the map pieces are numbered, but methinks that's already in some other guide...? Anyway, yes, nicely done. ^^
I really liked looking at all the pictures lol But it's fun when it's all in one place and you don't have to keep searching.
Wait , the ice Bruce doesn't really look like ice. It would be good if you could include a price guide for the individual maps
I might be wrong, but if memory serves correctly I think I saw a guide for Lab Map prices somewhere here. Instead, maybe you could link to that guide or something.
I spend 800k on my lab map. Was it worth it? For the first month all I i got was level changes and strengh, defence point changes It was not until my first species change that i felt it was worth it. Just yesterday i got my first paint change - skunk I have had my map for 5 months now and this is all I have got to show for it Xweetok - red Tuskinny Red Tuskinny - Red Jetsam Red Jetsam - Skunk Jetsam
That sucks, I guess I've been luckier than you. I bought my lab map and the second day I zapped my xweetok to rainbow. Then 4 days after that, it turned my Kougra into a Quiggle (HORRIBLE, but still a species change). I always try to zap my pet late either late afternoon or at night, Neopian time. Even though everyone says that the zaps are totally random and a certain time won't help, I always get good zaps around that time and horrible ones in the morning.
Sweet. Now I dont have to keep searching for different ones.. They're all here. What I'm dying for is a UC WN MSP! That is FTWxInfinity! You might want to put that up too.hehe ;p
Nice guide for those unfamiliar with the lab ^_^ Personally, I love the lab :* I've only got one, and I really like the chance you take on the zaps - nothing can happen, you Kougra can change to a Grarrl (eww in my book) or it can turn Maraquan. I mostly get zaps I don't like, and either pound the pet or trade it off
