Im doing the text of "The Crucible by Authur Miller" for literature this term Anyone has done this before, and can tell me what kind of questions the examiners like to ask. And the main themes, and stuff I can talk about in school?
Unless the author's name is a part of the title, it isn't included in the quotations when citing a book. If it is, then you still have to put the author, even if it is the same as in the title, beside the citation. Though you might want to know how to cite it before you hand in a paper on it. Never even heard of it. Hence, http://www.sparknotes.com/lit/crucible/
Protip: Use wikipedia and the related links http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mccarthyism http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_crucible
The Crucible is awesomeness incarnate. Proctor and Elizabeth were my favorite characters to dissect. You should trawl through the text for quotes and stage directions that are multi-theme, so you need to remember less. Its hard to get into the feel to begin with and understand why proctor is so obsessed with his name, you have to realize that in that day and age it was everything. Proctor is a really great tragic hero to work with, not too complicated once you get your head around the mind set of that time. Ultimately his rejection to make false confession, is a real resistance of the black magic of mass hysteria and what not. Its been a while since I studied it but key key key is the stage directions, if you want to stand out, take note of what is written in the stage directions (some which you may have to 'fill in') and the positioning of each character and how they reflect the relationship between certain characters. I cannot stress that enough. Also you may want to make reference to the title, I used to always forget myself Personally I believe Abigail is over rated and if possible avoided writing about her, a bit too simple and boring for my tastes just a silly little manipulated girl that essentially got a taste for power (blood)
Abigail turned out to be a pros, didnt she, lol. I like gile's style too. "More weight" Stage directions?
Watch the movie... Haha. I wish I could help, but its been too long since I have read it. Hmm... You could keep stuff like these in mind... (SPOILER ALERT) Spoiler http://www.calaveras.k12.ca.us/07%20Schools/CHS/english/ahampton/onlinetests/revcruciblelitest.htm That was just a quick google of "The Crucible test questions"
There's a type of "innocence dying" theme in the book. Last year in AP English when I had to read that book, my teacher kept specifying that theme, so it may be important for you. An example of that theme that he used from the book was when the rabbit hopped into the Proctor's home and just sat there. It was innocent and helpless, yet it was killed in the end when Sarah Proctor used it to make soup. So basically, everything innocent was coming to an end & dying. There are other parts in the book that back up that theme too.
buddy you lucked out! i read this just last year in lit and my teacher made us take extensive notes on things like themes, motifs, symbols, for every book i read and the crucible was our first book/play so i wasn't lazy with it. Once i'm able to file through every single paper that i have from last year and pick them all out i'll edit this post with some of the important themes, motifs, and symbols along with supporting evidences. EDIT: i guess you didn't luck out i've turned my room upside down looking for the notes that i took on the crucible and i'm unable to find any... i'm sorry if i got your hopes up but i usually keep every paper from the school year cuz they all come back to haunt me in a later year...
