Resident Evil, Doom, Max Payne. These are some examples of films based on video games. Some were "succesful" in their own way ( Resident Evil's fourth installment is being shot if im not mistaken ), some were just plain horrible low budget B movies imo and that of many critics. Whatever the case, it seems that these "game to movie adaptations" are growing in popularity lately, and I was wondering what your opinion on that it is. Did you enjoy watching these movies? Why did you, or why not? Thx! Quick example, two major game to movie adaptations are coming up in the future, Bioschock and Halo ( The Halo project with director Peter Jackson of LOTR was cancelled, but yesterday I heard rumors that its "alive" again ), yet I cant say if i'm all that glad about it. If they are gonna be like the game to movie films i've seen so far, imo they are better of not being made at all.
I did enjoy watching game to movie films. Final Fantasy: Advent Children being one of them. Some game to movie films fail some expectations of viewers. Next one I can't wait to see is The Last Airbender.
Resident Evil, Max Payne, Hitman, etc were not meant to be put on film. There was simply not enough substance to create enough of a story. Halo and Bioshock, however, were almost films themselves within the games. I think those would make for fantastic watching - especially Bioshock.
I do like the games that are made into movies, i can't speak for all of them, but one of my favorites is Final Fantasy, which I wish they would make a live action movie of instead of CG... Oh well... what can you do?
Not only game to movie films but Movie inspired games(comic book inspired games)didnt do well till now.... But did you hear about the latest Batman Arkham Asylum..Its doing pretty good.. On the topic Gta movie ideas were ruled out...the creators said that there is so much to a gta game which cannot be shown within 1.30 to 2 hrs!!! And most game inspired movies dont feature all the important things that contributed to the success of the game..(Hitman need i say more?)
