I think it's kinda ridiculous that he gets a prize before hand.
I always thought that you have to do it first to get a prize for it :p

A little early, but I think he'll eventually deserve it if he lives up to his plans.

Oh, and btw, it's Nobel Peace Prize, not Peace Nobel Prize...sounds better, and I believe that's how it's said o_O

A person receives the Nobel Peace Prize- or should -because of the things he has done that furthered the world towards peace. So far, the only thing Obama has done is made efforts towards that goal, none of which have proven effective just yet. The ONLY thing I can think of is that more countries approve of America because he is our president. But, that's not really something he himself did to further the cause.

From what I heard it's something about him boosting the economy, but after taking some economic courses.....recession cycles come every couple of years..it's just the natural way of things so like the above, I don't really see what he did either o_O

(IMO if he stopped the war on terror so my boyfriend doesn't have to deploy again then by all means give him one lol) but that's not gonna happen

The messed up part is he was only in office 11 days before the votes for the prize had to be in. I don't see how anything he could have done in just 11 days in office would make him deserving of the prize.

You don't need to be President of the USA to work on world peace. I'm sure he has done quite a lot of work outside of his presidency.

If everyone who knows absolutely nothing about diplomacy, foreign policies, or macroeconomics, whose definition of the National Debt is "a lot of money", and whose actual understanding of world events is limited to a sensationalistic one-liner on the front page of their local newspaper kept their traps shut in recognition of the fact that their opinion on someone handling these matters is 100% worthless, he'd be able to get so much done he could earn ten Nobel Peace Prizes. The grief Obama gets from the millions of mouthy clueless explains why so many politicians are rotten to the core - because the truth is the American public doesn't deserve any better.

wow... that was a very strong statement out of thin air. Honestly though, you're right the majority of the american population is clueless and only knows about the one-liners that head newspapers because that's the easiest form of acquiring information on subjects such as foreign affairs. I personally am one of those people though. I'm only 16 and my life isn't even half as busy as the normal person working a 9 to 5 job and if i can find time go out on my own ventures and do my own research outside of reading the newspaper, between school sports and homework, i would be the happiest person on earth. Now the fact that you say their opinion is 100% useless isn't true. Yes its worthless if they sit at home on neofriends and complain and moan about it, but if you go to public forums, a good majority of the time you will get your voice heard. So while your statement does point out that the american public is vastly lacking the true knowledge needed to have a genuine discussion over Obama's Nobel peace prize, i fail to see your contribution to this discussion other than telling us that were all stupid and our opinion doesn't matter.

Now, my personal opinion on this is with everybody else. So far i haven't seen or heard Obama do anything, either before or during his presidency, that would earn him a Nobel Peace Prize. But as i said above, i am one of those Americans who gets their main source of news from the one-liners in the newspapers, so i am with zer0 when he says Obamam probably has been working towards world peace even before he was president, just the majority of us don't know about what he has done to further his goals for world peace.

Well yeah, that's the long and the short of it. The focus is wrong, though. More important than the fact that I'm saying something negative about people is whether or not it's true. The answer (moot, since it won't happen) would be not to get mad at having a mirror held up, but to face the fact that most are no more qualified to comment on Obama than on Grand Unification Theory. Or to rewrite the family doctor's prescription because "in our opinion" he chose the wrong medicine.... or maybe recommend a different procedure to our surgeon. If you want to speak about something, educate yourself about it. If you're unwilling or unable to do that, for whatever reason, then be a grown man (or woman) and admit you have no opinion on [x topic] because you don't know enough about it to have a sensible opinion.

Sorry but I can talk about what I want on this forum !
And I don't have to go at the University to talk about Obama's Nobel Peace Prize.
Did you see the reaction of Obama when he knew that he win this prize ?
    He feeled unconfortable.

And for the opinion of Zer0 and ceneret0023, I don't think that Obama did things before who deserve a Nobel Prize.
If so why we didn't heard about it ?

Well, he hasn't done much yet, and I think the nobel prize should be given to someone who has done something awesome rather than talk about it.

because obama was a measly senator. The only time you hear something about a senator is when the senator has committed a crime or gotten him/herself into a scandal. Incase you didn't notice our media is very limited. They only write about the bad if it isn't anything that is of public concern. For instance, the majority of the general public doesn't care about one senator out of a hundred who is working towards world peace. They would rather hear about a senator who has pulled a clinton and is having sex with their interns, because this is what sells in the media. So the reason we wouldn't have heard about Obama before this is because he hadn't done anything to get himself global notice. Once Obama announced his running for president he was immediately known world wide, and got the recognition he might have needed for his goals to be seen. Now this is all speculation on my part, i honestly haven't done the research to support any of this, but to me it seems like a very valid and plausible reason.

Good reasoning. That the media focuses on scandals is hardly a statement that requires supporting research; it just requires opening your eyes. Neither is it hard to see that the general public eats it up; hence its success and perpetuation. Nothing wrong with intelligent observation, logic, and deduction. That's far different than having an opinion based on nothing, although sometimes it's safe to hazard an intelligent guess. I might, for example, guess that many who are stating that Obama doesn't deserve a Nobel Peace Prize couldn't name even a handful of previous Peace Prize Laureates or what they did to earn the honor without having to resort to Google, based solely on my experience with and understanding of people. :)

TRUE... But... The reason that i've heard is cause hes not bush, lol. Also, reportly for "Saving" the economy... I think Bush was horrible, but Obama hasn't done any better... Hes really done nothing since getting into office. Small minor things, but he also spent billions of dollars that our country doesn't have in attempt to fix problems, but it hasn't worked... He just keeps pumping money into the stock market and it keeps rising, but he didn't fix the problem. Hes just treating the problem by spending more and more money... And he hasn't fixed the job problem, as more and more people are losing their jobs. Unemployment figures are so far off, since they only count the people collecting unemployement... Doesn't count the people that are now OFF unemployement, or the people who are underemployed... People naturly work anything they can to get by, so if they had a 60k per year job, and now work at mcdonalds to atleast be able to live, they aren't counted...

So yea, i repeat, he hasn't done what he sposetly got it for...
