Hands down, I have to admit that I absolutely love the movie version of Holes. If you skim the book and watch the movie, it matches up so well. And it's such a great book.

If I hadn't seen 'The Phantom Tollbooth' when I was like 13 I'd compare those two, too. :B But it's been so long.

And I know the Harry Potter movies/books are really popular, but I'm just not impressed at the conversion. :/ My favourite book was 3, and the movie was... terrible. Well, okay. From a movie being a movie standpoint, it was decent. But... the events were even out of order from book -> movie.... D: That's just gross.

I'm excited for The Road though! I saw a trailer and was glassy-eyed and ecstatic. It's such a great book. Fairly short, too; I'm hoping they took the time to actually translate the most important details into the movie. :)

What're some of your favourite book/movie conversions? :3

I remember reading Holes in the 5th grade. Loved the book, so I was pretty psyched when the movie was released. Wasn't disappointed with that either which just made me love it more~

As for the HP series, I love them books to death. I feel Rowling is a real master of the english language. It helps that I watched the speech she gave the Harvard graduate years ago. 'Twas so great. @_@

Anyway, the first and second HP movies were really spot on. It had the perfect Dumbledore, they barely missed out major events from the books, etc. But then they changed the director...How could they miss revealing the fact of who The Marauders really were!? Igh. So yeah, taking only the movies into consideration, they were fine. But I really really liked the books, so the movies just made me shake my head.

    Just needed to reply to that. I don't really have my own favorite conversions. x3;

The books are awesome. They were one of the things that made my grandpa and I really close in the years before he died.

Honestly, I don't remember much of the movies. I just remembering being so openly agitated in the middle of the theater after the movie to everyone I went with. And random strangers. 8D

I met the author of the book Holes, and yet I've never read the books :p

I can't say which book is the 'best ever' but if I had to throw a few out there that I enjoy for different reasons: Douglas Adams books are very fun to read. Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, and depending on my mood Tom Clancy novels are good too

I don't generally like movie versions of books, LOTR did a decent job, but I don't think the Harry Potter movies are any good compared to the books

Agreed on that :( The movies of the HP books are.. good as movies, but I can't go OMG BEST MOVIES AND BOOKS EVAR.

They're good movies in their own right, which is more than I can say for a lot of movies. (x

I agree with you, Piggy, on the 1st and 2nd HP books -> movies. They were pretty great, the only major addition was the moving staircases.
I remember Holes too. I think I read it in the fifth grade as well.... /odd and the movie was pretty good, rather entertaining.
I'm going to watch the movie "House" tonight. It's based on a book I read. The book was crazy guy/possessed house psycho thriller/horror style with very little gore. I hope the movie is decent.

On the subject of books -> movies I strongly dislike, Twilight = vomit.

My favorite book would be "Saint" by Ted Dekker. Unfortunately, they never made a movie out of it, but it is part of a trilogy.

My favorite book>movie conversion would probably be the Lord of the Rings series.

My favorite book and movie would have to Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas.

The book is a really good read and the movie is just awesome. It stars Johnny Depp and Anthony Del Toro. Depp plays as a journalist going to las vegas to cover a motorcycle race, and Del Toro is his attorney that goes along with him. It's really interesting!

Definitely check it out if you haven't seen it.

I liked the HOLES book, but I didn't really like the movie. It would have been better if it was an animated movie, in my opinion.
