The whole purpose of the system was so that they had a man to carry on their family name or w/e, but no girls = no babies = no name continuation. I find it ironic and pretty dang funny. http://news.yahoo.com/s/afp/20100111/hl ... enmarriage
Even if it is... that doesn't stop people from finding ways to do it I think it's not that ironic... it's karma XD
Yes it is ironic that by doing the gender specific abortions, that will lead to not enough women for the men in later years. But since it's the males last name that is taken once married, that's why they rather have a boy then a girl. What a crazy world we live in.... It's just a last name for god sakes lol It is pretty funny though if it ends up happening lol ~parisdirt
WE'LL SEE MASSIVE RAPE ON THE STREETS AND SEX ALL OVER THE PLACE AND THE WHOLE CHINA IS GONNA BE THE LAND OF FUNNY THINGS! :O :O :O
i honestly find it fairly hilarious lol i know carrying on the family name is a big honor thing and all that and men are more likely to pull in a bigger a income but the fact that they're running out of women for men is friggin hilarious!! If the government could like find a way to make the sex specific abortons stop it would definitely help but i think the chinese population is just way to screwed up to actually end up going back to normal. They're gonna have to start spreading out if they wanna try and fix this. They have the technology to start developing the more central parts of china and if they could start developing in their then it would start evening out and going back to normal levels, but until then LOL AT CHINESE MEN!!!!!!
Meh, I'm not sure I agree with some of the terms being thrown around in this thread: mainly "karma," "irony," and "hilarious." But that's just my opinion.
Well why do you feel that way? Is it not ironic that a country rather have a male child to keep there last name going, but in return will not have enough females for said males to marry and keep the name going? Seems pretty close to irony to me... ~parisdirt
Yes, but the implication of humour within irony is what I have a problem with. It just isn't something that's funny to me...?
Something like that. Either way it's illegal for doctors to tell parents the gender of their unborn child; this being the reason. (But since my mom was an MD at the hospital, when she was pregnant with me she had one of her interns tell her. So glad my parents honestly didn't care about gender.)
Lol, the "problem" seems blown way out of proportion IMO. On a local scale, I doubt it has any significant impact on marriage chances. I mean, there isn't a big difference between having 100 girls to choose from and having 98 girls to choose from. And while this'll be a problem in the long run, there will definitely be policy changes and whatnot in the short run that'll make this a moot point before long.
