After a cap of some sort was installed, the BP oil spill has finally been stopped for the first time in months.

BP will finish drilling a relief well by mid-August and stop the oil leaks permanently, if no other complications occur...

After how long?? How many birds and marine life had to suffer for that? They didn't have to die if they didn't screw up without back up plan in the first place. Just glad it's fixed now regardless.

Living in Canada, and being without T.V and the Internet I havnt had to see much of this. I dont want to. Its makes me incredible sad. Like Tally said, the damage has already been done. The news was on a little while ago talking about and how there not 100% sure if this plan will work and it will be over.. but ppl are looking alot more optimistic. Id hate to see what its done to the aquatic life and waters over there :(

I live in Florida and I know so many people who are worried to go to the beach because of the oil spill. I haven't been to the beach in a month or so but I hear that you can see globs of oil in the water. It's so sad.. and everyday in the news there's always some story about animals getting stuck or getting ill.

I'm glad they finally fixed it but it shouldn't have taken them 80+ days to do it. Our govt should make BP pay more than it is. And they should've stepped in to get this fixed sooner instead of worrying about passing stupid things like health care to ruin our economy even more.

Given that current US regulations caps the amount oil companies need to pay to about $250 million in case of a spill, we're lucky that BP set up the $20 billion (or whatever the amount is) fund to pay for clean up/lawsuits without much fuss. But again, BP is not really doing so out of altruism. It probably just doesn't want to risk economic backlash from the US (one of its main customers). I shudder to think what would have happened if an US company caused the spill. The government would probably have to foot the entire bill beyond the $250 million...

Can't believe it took so long, with the amounts of damage it was causing surely it should have been absolutely paramount to stop the spillage immediately. Understandably it took time to figure out and build, but surely it could have been done faster.

They need to face immense consequences in my opinion. They ruined so much more than just the environment....

They better owe up to their mistakes. Animals died cause of their stupidity. And who knows how much of the marine life was wiped out! Much of the gulf was still undiscovered with aquatic species. How many you think they might have cause to become endangered or extinct without us knowing that they were even there?

Whenever I watch the news everyday, there's ALWAYS something on about the oil spill BP have done.
The immediate response to the oil spill is disappointing, BP are not owning up to the fact of the extreme damage they have done not only to the environment, but the local people.

How convenient. It seems like a hurricane is approaching and they are evacuating the area, meaning they won't be able to monitor the cap. Let's just hope the cap doesn't explode open during this time. <_<
