I have to go back to school in two weeks, so I am determined to waste as much time as possible on movies. Does anyone have any recommendations (recent movies preferred)? The movie can be in theaters on or DVD. TV shows are okay too!
Inception if you haven't already seen it. It's really interesting but kind of long. Some people found it kind of confusing, but it really makes you think. If you're looking for a comedy, I recently saw Date Night and it was pretty funny.
Inception aswell, it's brilliant. I get annoyed when people say it's confusing because they explain everything in it. It's just really clever and you'll never think about dreams the same again
Here's my list... some are still in theaters.. some aren't. (They're all relatively recent though) Inception - Well, I mean... come on. Of course you gotta see this. Despicable Me - Funny with a good storyline. It's not just for kids... everything isn't incredibly dumbed down or anything like that. Salt - Okay, I have to admit that some of the fighting scenes in this movie are a bit overdone.. but I enjoyed the plot. It's a good action flick to see. How To Train Your Dragon - Another really great animated movie. It's funny with great voice acting by a strong cast. (Already on IMDB top 200 as #181) Charlie St. Cloud - Eh, this is a good film to see. Kinda chick-flikey. I came in not expected too much but it was pretty good movie. I never read the book or anything so I came in knowing nothing about the film. There's some surprise plot twists that are interesting and keep you guessing. The Other Guys - This is another movie I came in with low expectations. I like Will Ferrell but I'm not a huge fan of Mark Wahlberg. It was actually pretty funny! Eva Mendes was great and hilarious. Overall good comedy. ...so sorry I just wrote so much
here's a list of tv shows: chuck two and a half men friends the office community how i met your mother big bang theory
Thanks for your detailed recs! I think I will check out Inception and Salt as soon as possible, since I'm more interested in movies with a good plot. For some reason I never liked these 3D animated family movies... I'm probably the only person here who didn't like Finding Nemo.
Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus - A bit of a mind destroying movie. Absolute wonder, though. If you don't mind thinking through the whole thing, see it. Inglourious Basterds - The best Quentin Tarantino movie I've ever seen. It balances his usual action and exuberant gore with brilliant dialogue and intriguing storylines. If you don't mind reading subtitles (as about 60-70% of this movie is in French and German) it is probably the best movie of 2009. Vertigo - I know you wanted recent, but this movie is genius. Dinner for Schmucks - The absolute funniest move I have seen in ages. Never stopped laughing. Despicable Me - A cute, heart-melting kids movie that entertains people of all ages. Inception - The must-see movie of the year. Can't be out of the loop, you know? Salt - I thought I'd hate this, as I despise Angelina Jolie... But this movie was intense. Great action and an intense moment that actually left some wet eyes in the theater. Toy Story 3 - The best movie in the series, and I think the best movie Pixar has made - hands down. I don't know how old you are, but if you're around my age and lived through Toy Story 1 & 2 at the same age as Andy, this is almost painfully nostalgic - in a good way. Gunless - Just released on DVD. This is a great Canadian comedy that you might not be able to find outside the great north. If you can, however, it's fun and clever. Predators - A surprisingly interesting and fun ride out of a sci-fi horror action movie, and some great performences that make it all worthwhile. How to Train Your Dragon - Absolute surprise. It's dreamworks, so I expected cheesey talking dragons and dull, lifeless storyline. Was surprised with interest, depth, and a lack of talking animals. Very good experience. Date Night - Fun, funny comedy that's well worth a look-see. Funniest car chase ever. The Crazies - It was a horror/gore remake. I was expecting it to be just that - fun, but otherwise dismissable. Actually, it was a very good movie with some great peformences and a penetratingly scary atmosphere. Shutter Island - Intriguing, intense movie. Enough said. Please watch. I think I'll stop there. Enjoy! Also, I think you should not see The Other Guys. It had one or two laughable moments at the beginning, but other than that was an absolute waste of money.
If you want to see the ultimate Man-gasmic movie. Go see The Expendables. The CGI was terrible, no plot, yet the greatest movie ever made... err I meant greatest action movie. Oh yeah, Inception too!
I would recommend you spirited away, but you said recent movies... I heard The Other Guys is really funny, I'm planning on watching it xD I just watched Karate kid too, it was okay, i watched it mainly because of Jackie Chan was there
500 days of summer of course. Makes your life feel less crappy and more meaningful. EDIT: And a little further back, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. Brilliant non-mainstream-y-ness
Listed before in this thread, but INCEPTION! the concept is just brilliant, and the plot is slightly confusing but great!
I would definitely recommend Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World. It was really interesting, fun, and surprising. Most of the other movies I could recommend are already on this list (occasionally multiple times) so that's about all I have.
Gone in Sixty Seconds Predators Drumline Casino Royale any of the Batman movies Are just a few I like =]
