Are there Ps3s that still play Ps2 games sold in stores still?

Or will I have to hunt one of these down on ebay or something? Any one know what exactly to look for?

My Ps2 has been broken for the past 3-4 years but I really want to finish the games from it, but I don't want to buy an outdated game system.

no, the original ps3 had ps2 compatibility, but it cause overheating problems and in some cases, the system to catch fire. Thus, sony removed it and have been working since to figure a fix for this problem with out success. Thos original ps3s are somewhat rare and expensive, and there where only a few cases of this overheating and catching fire. I know a couple people with originals that have had no problem, including no ylod.

I think thats partly why ps twos are still going pretty well. Still money to be made with ps2 accessories.

also, ps2 will really never die and to me, still not outdated. It is capible of doing almost everything the ps3 does. Only major difference is graphics. Everything else can be done in the after market.

ps2 can do something that ps3 officially cant, and that's run linux :p

yes, if it is a 20 GB - CECHB01, or a 60 GB - CECHA01, it is worth more due to its ps2 downward compatibility. They are in pretty good demand.

and the ps2 is still worth 40-55 usd with no controllors or wires easily. The fatter ones were dropping in price after the release of t he ps3, but have gone well back up, to around 45-50 usd. The reason being they have the hdd bay.

I'm in the process right now of modding my ps2 like crazy (mod chip, hard drive, Ethernet, hdloader, linux, home-brewed software), and have been doing a lot of research into the ps2's and ps3's lately :D

I'll give you 20 bucks + shipping fee for the fat one. XD
The reason they dropped the backward comp was just to sell more PS2.
People still buy them. They'd be idiot not to take this chance to make extra $$$

i'll go 25 + shipping on the fat one :D If you'd be willing to part with it.

Of course that was part of it but the official reason they gave was the problem with overheating. Sony still makes a lot on ps2s.

I bought mine right when it came out, so 1st gen and such. It cost a fortune and i've had no problems with it at all. People who had theirs catch on fire is probably really unlucky lol. But yeah I think it's kinda hard to find them now a days, because the people who have them tend to want to hold on to it.
