Australian court rules that a penis is not a prerequisite to being a man.

A transgender couple were given the legal right to be recognised as men, although they still retain the female reproductive system.

This particular couple have had their breasts removed and have had hormone treatment.

Is our gender defined by more than our chromosomes and physiological differences? Or is it more of a state of mind?

I wonder if this would open the flood gates for more complicated issues, such as if a man can be legally recognised as a woman without having a gender change operation. If this is the case, would that man now be able to compete in women's only sports? There has to be a line, but I don't know where that line is.

Well, I don't know what goes down in the land down under (sorry, couldn't resist), but in the US, if any man wants to compete in women's only sport, where there is less funding, less spectatorship, less airtime, I am more than welcoming of his decision. Same if he wants to become a woman so he can make 80 cents to a dollar of his original income. Or to have his entire reproductive system be at the mercy of old, senile male politicians. After all, it's a free world out there. :)

On more optimistic terms, did you know that in Australia, you now can carry a passport that doesn't specify you as either male or female?

About time civil laws catches up with civility.

Wow, I remember reading about this elsewhere too. To be honest, I'm really excited to see how this issue is gonna develop in Australia. I wonder if other countries will start following suit?

I couldnt imagine y someone isnt happy with their gender, but here in the US we do have the pursuit of happiness, if that makes them happy, very well then.
