    Is Your iTouch Jail-Breakable?
First, you want to know if you can Jailbreak it.
This can be done by: Settings>General>About
You need to know your: Version and Model
    Version: 3.1.2
This is the easiest version to jailbreak. If you have upgraded to 3.1.3, You will most likely be unable to jailbreak it, unless of course you have a 2nd Generation iPod.

    Model: MB
Check and see beside your model the First To Letters. If it is MB, your good to go! If it is MC, even if it is jailbroken, the "Please Connect to iTunes" will appear if it goes dead, or powers off, as this has a different bootrom.

What You can Do with a JailBroken iTouch
If you Touch is jailbroken, you can do all kinds of new things. This brings the "Theres an App for There" To an entire new level. Customize your ipod with Winterboard, custom icons, lockscreens, scroll apps UP and Down on one page, makke it more than 4 apps per row. Theres even an app to get Free Apps.

    The Blackra1n Method
This is absolutley the easiest method there is. What you want to do is visit blackra1n.com and click either the Windows Logo or the Mac Logo to download it. When finished, connect your iPod to iTunes. Change your options to: Don't Open iTunes when Device is Connected. Then DisConnect and Reconnect it. Run blackra1n.exe as administrator and click make it ra1n.
After your Device restarts, open up blackra1n on your iPod and install Cydia.

    redsn0w
This method is for people who have upgraded to 3.1.3 Please Note: This doesnt Work for EVERY Device.
Go To redsn0w.com and click "info here"
Scroll to the bottom and download it.
After downloading, you need 3.1.2 firmware. Visit here to get it:
    http://www.felixbruns.de/iPod/firmware/
Open up redsn0w and answer what kind of Model you have etc. When it tells you to find the firmware, find your Downloaded firmware.
Let redsn0w process it. Then, continue and it will jailbreak.

And errr, downloaded programs/hacked programs and games?

Yea I can make my own ringtones using music editing software I have.. I want a new message tone though. Which cannot be done without replacing the old tones that are in the IPhone - To do that it needs to be jail-broken as far as I know.

Unless someone knows an easier way :p

    Thanks for that link though!!

You can... Well, heres a few i use:
SBSettings: You can do anything in your settings menu, without going to settings. Brightness, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, anything.
Winterboard: Custimzes you ipod with lockscreens, custom icons, even custom sounds when you unlock your iPod..
Backgrounder: You can basically minimize an app and it doesn't close.
Installous: Free Apps. This is where you can literally get ANY app in the app store free.
    GPSPhone: GameBoyAdvance on the iPod.

These are just a few apps that I use..

Whaaaaaat? Installous doesn't even compare to the app store when it comes to the amound of apps available, and you sure can't get the regular apps (available in app store) for free in installous. I'm not saying installous is worthless, you can actually get some (a few) decent apps from there (cycorder is my favourite), but nowadays you have to pay for many of the apps in there.

Are you talking about paying for things from Cydia? Or actually DLing Apps from installous? I've never had to pay for an app from installous.

You're right, I was a bit hasty to say that. Just noticed that I didn't have installous since I upgraded to 3.1.2 and there's been some major changes since I last checked it. Sorry for that. =)

i think jailbreaking voids the warranty. make sure the benefits outweigh that risk before you attempt to jailbreak

    other than that, excellent guide
