If you haven't heard former England captain, David Beckham will be joining the LA Galaxy at the end of his Real Madrid contract. The LA Galaxy will be paying him $250 million for 5 years of service. For those of you that are to lazy to do the math, that's nearly $1,000,000 per week for 5 years. Besides the money he is getting to come here, do you think this is a good or bad move for the MLS?
Its confirmed? If it is, then its a good move for Beckam and a bad one for Galaxy. I still think Beckam's overhyped. He's good, but not THAT good.
Hmmm hes gonna earn alot of money! I've mt him before...in his academy in London, where my school was playing at and hes pretty cool and down to earth 8)
He "says" its not for the money whatsoever (if it really isn't then he should take it ). He wants the Americans to like football (soccer) and get them off American football.
good move if he is playing for the money and the money only. but if he is playing because he has a love for the game then its a bad move
yup... i heard it was 25 million too... let me check this dude and i can probably drive down to la too! lolz hes not that good anymore though....
exactly... but to Jhnboy i heard that he said that hes only coming to the us to bring importance to soccer
ya but there were crowds of people begging him to go to hollywood i think he should.... its like tom cruise number 2 =)
I thought it was $248 million over 7 years, maybe I'm wrong. That's a LOT of money for one soccer player. I wonder how LA Galaxy managed to fit that under their cap..maybe Beckham will change the MLS?
No folks, it is indeed $250 million for 5 years. He says the move is not for the money, but that he would like to help expand soccer in the States and bring it more to par with the rest of the world. Although the Galaxy won't actually be paying a $50 million salary per year, they will be paying about $10 million and the rest comes from endorsements and his image rights, of which the Galaxy will be giving him 100% of. And now with Beckham here, FC Dallas is in contact with Edgar Davids, New York wants Figo and Pirlo (if I remember correctly) would like to come to the States at some point too. Things are looking good for the MLS and US Soccer. With all this star power in the league, it will surely bring more attention and sponsors to the clubs. I for one, am very, very pleased.
Yes, I've always been a soccer fan (although I haven't had much time to keep up with the current events) so I'm pleased to see all this attention coming back to soccer. still.. GEEEZ.. $95/second 0_0
dude i seriously think its 25 million instead of 250 million... let me check this further nvm: its up to 250 million http://www.whiotv.com/sports/10734304/detail.html
Christ. Google it yourself. Turn on the damn the television. No it's not an error. He will be receiving $250 million for 5 years. @ Exclure, I imagine it's a bit of both. He's still in his prime and surely will have a lot of experience to bring to the MLS as well as his new teammates at the Galaxy. And on the other side of things, he is perhaps the most well know soccer player in the world right now, so certainly the fact that it is David Beckham has something to do with it.
well i just think i ought to tell you (if you don't know it already) $250 mil is the EXPECTED gain as he gets $10 mil wages per year (less) but gaaxy don't control as much of his advertisement rights so that's were most of the money is coming from galaxy are actually paying him LESS than madrid (if you can believe it) but he is earning more because of other contract clauses also this move means he will almost certainly never play for england again as the league is too low a standard to be a top quality international player
