I say keep the tech as it is. If we did not have technology, how would we be communicating, where would the internet be, where would cars be, how would our jobs be affected, what would we do for entertainment, and many more.
Wow....Do you actualy think that governments are responsible? Ffs we have already shown that we will use nukes (used em on INNOCENT people in japan), so why don't you think people will use them again. America already has more than enough nukes to destroy the world. AMERICA ALONE. Imagine a world war. Several countrys fighting eachother, do you honestly think they wouldn't pull out their best weapons? If so, then you have alot to learn about humans greed.
Technology can never be taken too far. What people do with technology however can be taken to extreme lengths. As Einstein said, "I don't know what World War 3 will be fought with, but I know World War 4 will be fought with sticks and stones."
What the hell is that supposed to mean? I can understand he was a genius, and with his mental ability memorized many scientific principles, but I fail to see how his analogys are automaticaly correct.
It's a very wise statement. He is saying that WW3 will be fought with technology, that will result in the world returning back to stoneage ways as people will abuse technology to the point where it will only result in destruction.
thats a good point i believe this technology is actually hurting the human race as 15 years ago... there werent people addicted to WOW and such... education is declining and well the list continues... BUT if human wills are strong enough to endure laziness and reject it... technology advancement is beneficial
heck yes dude. we didnt have problems like global warming and animal extinction if we didnt advance our technology
but at those times ... things were dangerous as there werent COPS like today and medicine was just not as advanced
that may be true but at least we didnt have these wars such as the war in Iraq and the cold war ..etc.
wars took place in ancient and modern times alike in the ancient times they would commonly slaughter another city just for the place instead of *modern... treaties
We're starting to do things we shouldn't with our technology because even though it's often talked about, nobody is aware of what the consequences will be until it's too late.
Technological singularity. The end of humankind, in my opinion. That, or something with a Fallout-like conclusion.
Zapno... just think about this for a second... before 1900, civilization had been around for almost 2000 years... Now with global warming and the way we are destroying the environment, based on the rate of our great technology... think we'll last another 2000 years? Someone mentionned cars and how great they are. Well go into downtown LA and take a deep breath and see how great they are. Most cities at noontime have this wonderful brownish haze thanks to cars! We'd better do something and soon about "our technology" and find us another planet to inhabit, cause this ones about ready to start wheezing. Humans are taking technology too far and not understanding the consequences.
That had absolutely NO argument to my statement. I said wars would be devestating now. You said our environment is being destroyed, tell me what that has in common? To anyone who thinks that wars were similar in older times, get a history book. Seriously, mabey 1000 people died in a war a long time ago, wheras in world war two more than 100 times that do. Things have gotten much MUCH more dangerous. We WILL go extinct it's almost guaranteed. Global warming, commets, war, volcanos etc. All have the potential to kill us within the next 100 years.
Zapno... I was just stating that even without war and the fact that we can destroy ourselves many times over... technology has speeded up the process... That's why I posted 2000 years versus the last 100 years. Most of the technological advances we have made have been in the last 100 years and that alone... not even mentioning wars is pushing us into destroying ourselves with our technology. I'm just responding to the topic: Are humans taking technology too far? Simply put: Yes
Yeah, but you quoted me as if you had an argument to my message. I didn't mean to say that war will kill us no matter what. I was simply saying that war COULD kill us, as could many other things.
