Great guide! It actually worked but I'm trying to find a decent proxy in which I can test it to see it works. And the internet goes real slow too. XD
I love proxies because everytime it saved my skin ...almost everywhere! it really helps to know how to use it and if you get in a trouble you can use it a last resort
DesertSong, it doesn't matter how you connect to the internet... proxies are other servers you go thru to get to neopets or other sites. Example: Regular User: Your Computer --->> Direct to Neopets (Neopets sees your IP address) Using a proxy simply put, it would look like this: Your Computer --->> Proxy Server --->> (Neopets sees the proxy servers IP address thus hiding your real IP) Please note... Neopets is very aware of proxy servers... especially those you find online that allow you to enter a web address on their web page and then log into Neopets. In many cases your account, even though you didn't cheat, will be frozen. You never know who else is using those proxy servers, nor what they were doing. Neopets, just sees the IP address and chain freezes. I tested this by setting up 14 accounts using these services. In every case, the account was frozen within 24-48 hours, even though nothing was done that broke Neopets rules. It was simply the fact that these proxy servers were connected to the account. Neopets record: 14 accounts set up... 14 iced within 2 days.
I get how it works, but I noticed there were different methods for LAN vs. Modem. And are there different methods for a wireless user as well?
There again it depends on which type of wireless network you are on. If you have a wireless router/hub in your house that is connected to the internet, both computers share the same IP address. If you have a "mobile" wireless network... then in most cases the IP addresses are different. The only thing a home wireless network does is allow your computers to share a single internet connection, hence a single IP address... (not including file sharing and printing)
No, I'm just using a local signal. It varies from computer to computer I think because my neighbor has a different IP than I do and we use the same wireless connection. But this is what I don't get. When I view my connection status it says this. Address Type: Assigned by DHCP IP Address: *** I can see your IP*** - Marlene And there are fields for Subnet Mask and Default Gateway. But when I went to Whatsmyipaddess.com I got a different IP that they showed. Why is that?
That IP address is the wireless modem and how your computer connects to it... the modem itself is going on the internet, and that's why you see a different IP address. Like I said in previous posts... check all your computers at Whatsmyipaddess.com and you'll see they probably all have the same IP. Try turning off your wireless modem and wait a few minutes and then turn it back on... and test again... see if it's still giving you the same IP address.
The modem isn't mine, it's somewhere else in the area. It's a free local access and I'm not sure who supervises it. Just switching off my signal doesn't seem to do anything.. Should I just hold off and use a computer at a cafe or something?
Well... I'd advise you to only use programs that allow you to enter a proxy directly as you can't readily change your IP address so if you cheat on one account... it's connected to the other. Using a computer at a cafe... hmmm you're in a difficult situation. That's not the safest place to do anything as there's a large number of people doing a lot of good/bad things on those computers.
and if u go toilet/leave it logged in by mistake someone can take all your NP (while at the cafe) so id stay away from that
