If they did that, the people could probably get a decent lawsuit out of it, and they could get a different ballet instructor. If somebody kept saying "Your hair is ugly so shave your head", would you?
Well then those girls should probably find a new ballet instructor. In all my years of dance, I have never been told to lose weight by starving myself. And so what if some girls are pressured? You can't be a cow and be a ballerina...being told to lose weight isn't that big of a deal.
My real problem with BMI charts and "average" weights is that people generally fail to realize those standards are for adults. Most are aimed at those in their thirties. So for teens and anyone younger to use those as an acceptable standard is completely unrealistic and very inaccurate. That mindset promotes over eating and remaining unhealthy if they really think that 140 is an acceptable weight for a 12 year old because a chart somewhere on the internet said so. I really loath hearing all the crap models take for their weight. Anyone who argues they're sending messages to the masses to be thin really need to open their eyes and have a look around. Commercials for fast food and other restaurants don't use incredibly thin people to market their food. Lower end department stores and large chains don't either. And that's where most people go. They don't do to Dior. They go to Old Navy. How many people really pay attention to high fashion? Really? I know two. Myself and my boyfriend. I have a hard time understanding why a large procent of the population has such a problem with a tiny social nitch they don't understand or follow.... It baffles me.
theres no such thing as a perfect body in my opinion some people are big others are skinny buff average etc the only way to make your own body perfect is you thinking yourself wether its perfect or not
Me and most other lads I know find REALLY skinny girls absolutely disgusting. Its vile when there too skinny. Theres more to girls than their size. And the girls need to learn that more than anyone xD (Not normal girls the ones with disorders) A lot of clothing stores only advertise with size 12+ models now which is a good start
Umm what clothing stores? I think that's lame. If a store is for plus size women, then that's fine, but if it sells regular sizes, then they should hire accordingly...
Im presuming your maybe american? size 12 is below average for UK. size 0 = size 4 UK i think :?: So size 12 = around the average women. It gives us a TRUE representation of what the clothes would look like on a girl easier for us men to buy you clothes Edit: 800th post w00t
A size 12 in the UK is 10/11 in the US. The average size of a women in the US is a 9/10 I think, but isn't that just because America is fat? So the size zeros of the country are being outnumbered by the...not so size zeros. Perhaps they should start paying attention to high fashion models and maybe learn a thing or two.
I know size 9 isn't fat, but when larger people outnumber thinner people, obviously the average size is going to be higher.
back in the olden times, beeing fat was a sign of good wealth. but now beeing fat shows you not bothered about yourself
What makes it sad is that most girls at that age are already uncomfortable with their bodies and they want to be accepted so they believe if they look a certain way they'll feel better about themselves so they turn toward their peers who basically get their facts from mass media so they're all following this garbage and getting brain warped with a false sense of a "perfect body". It sucks.
Allow me to start off my post by responding to this one comment which stuck out to me... Tyra has gained nearly forty pounds since she retired from her high-end modeling days when she was around eightteen I believe. She is now over thirty years old and has gained the weight over time, not all at once like the Media has portrayed. At her height, 161 lbs. looks healthy. Period. As for the media pressuring young girls to look a certain way, it's not the media's problem. It's society. The Media, in my opinion, doesn't exist without Society standing behind it. Look at how many mothers put pressure on their daughters to LOOK a certain way. Pagent mothers. Cheer moms. Even fathers have fallen into the pressuring game. They want their children to be perfect and live up to unrealistic standards they've set. Media just happens to be the scapegoat for so many people who are too weak to stand up and say "I am my own problem. I do this to myself because of ME". Instead of taking responsibility for their own actions they point the finger and say "The media shoves pictures of unrealistically thin people in my face..." It's crap. But, it's America's crap. Truth is, I had an eating disorder. Key word there being HAD. Granted, it follows me everywhere I go and in the back of my mind when I look at myself I still hear that annoying little voice pointing out all my flaws. But, instead of pushing myself to be thinner, I point out how my hips stick out or how my ribs are slightly visible. Oh well. It happens. At least I'm healthy enough to admit that my problems stem from my own mentality. I don't dislike my body because of the Media. I don't envy that girl on the cover of a magazine because she's thin. She's getting paid to be that thin. And about the pressure in ballet. Trust me. There's lots of pressure. The girls in those situations, however, need to have the mental strength to stand up against the superficial bastards who are applying that "starve-yourself-pressure". And anybody who see's (or knows about) it happening, needs to help stand against it. Bring it to the attention of someone trustworthy enough to do something about it. Period. Don't just stand in the shadows and complain. That only makes you part of the problem, not part of the solution.
When I was younger and used to go to a professional standard ballet school. Girls were occasionally told that they needed to "lengthen their muscles" this meant that they needed to loose some weight. I had friends who used to eat tissues just to feel full. I was always thought I was naturally quite thin, so didnt think I'd have a problem, unfortunately I wasnt thin enough as although only a size uk6 at the time I was quite curvy in my hips and bust. Luckily a group of parents found out what was happening and removed their children from the school, myself included. I think the most beautiful celebrities around are people like Liv Tyler and Dita Von Teese, naturally curvy women who dont diet to hell to fight their natural body shape.
