Cotton balls soaked with orange juice are the norm at my school.
Most of the girls can't even handle it and end up passing out everywhere...

I think that if it gets to the point of missing two meals in a day, just to remain/get thin. Then that's a problem.

Being super thin isn't really all that great to be honest...

Lol. I think you watched a programme that was on the television recently ;)

The fact is, eating disorders existed before the media became the huge entity it is now. However, eating disorders SEEM to be far more common now than they were, but could this not be due to the fact that we pay more attention to them now and know how to diagnose them properly? Also, I think it's due to an increasingly more "attention seeking" youth. Young people seem to think its "cool" to say that they have or have had an eating disorder. Everyone seems to want to lay claim to their own dysfunction at the moment.

In saying this, I don't think that the media are behaving in a responsible way. The issue of tiny models being used is one thing, but actively attacking and humiliating someone for putting on some weight is disgusting and definitely sends out the wrong message to young people.

xxx__ is right. There has always been a concern over weight in this world. Remember corsettes?? I don't think it's cool that so many people are developing eating disorders, most people try these crash diets because people always want to take the "get thin quick" road and end up killing themselves or getting addicted to dieting. I don't know why everyone wants to be thin so bad because it's really hard to find a guy who wants to date a girl when he can see every vertebrae in her body.

That's kind of assuming that someone who diets does it purely to attract a boyfriend/girlfriend, but I don't think that's always the case. If we are talking about people with REAL disorders and not just stupid people who crave a bit of attention then we're talking about people with a psychological disorder that distorts their view of their own appearance, and these people usually have very little interest in finding a partner, if any, as a symptom of the illness is being extremely self absorbed.
Some people genuinely cannot see that thay are thin, no matter how many people tells them they are and no matter how many bones they can see. Sad, but true :(.
Even sadder is the fact that I suspect, as Summer said before, that many people do it to try and get people's attention and then end up giving themselves a real problem

I hate those wieght limits they put on everyone. I think that everyone has their own personal "proper wieght" depending on who YOU are. Someone else cannot say that you HAVE to be so-and-so amount of wieght. As long as you are healthy and active you shouldn't try to be like pencil xD

I think as long as your health isnt in danger you are fine. I think people shouldnt take the "media" so seriously either. I mean if ou know it its just all photo shop images it shouldnt be a problem.

The media truly is to blame for the increase of eating disorders and the whole 'perfect body' thing, but even if you tried not to be affected by it's images your peers still might start watching after their weight. Especially when I was in Junior High School every girl was on a diet (or saying that they were). In that age people, especially girls, can be really mean. If you already have a low self-confidence (people w/ eating disorders almost always have) and get called 'fat' or 'ugly' it's really hard not to be affected. And school nurses checking your weight have never made things any better
In a case like that you'd rather lose some weight than be teased about your looks. Anorexia or bulimia doesn't always start from modeling dreams or such.

Tyra Banks was gorgeous and still is. I think she looks even hotter than before.

Well, in a recent pole in Men's Fitness magazine, The most desirable female body type, 72% like women that are Trim and Toned, while only 2% for those that are 'heavyweight'.

21% for 'Meat on her bones' (I'm guessing like some muscle/fat for grabbing, idk), 4%for Athletic (muscles), and 1% for Superskinny (like the Olsens).

Therefore, it is an acceptable reason to state that the majority of men prefer women who are toned, but not skinny, but also not fat.

But some women just have those genes. Some men do too. Women can be born skinny or fat, and never be able to change it because of their parents. And it isn't their parents fault either. It just happens... evolution changes the world in different ways. You could be on the heavy side, but be the most toned possible for your body type. The media has just messed it up more.

:?: Propaganda= misleading adverts used to promote political views and/or causes.

I have a hunch that's not what the media is aiming to do.

Tyra is a hotty  She is not fat at all....I find it quite disgusting as a male when you see a girl with bony ribs and all the baggage of self esteem issues. Now fatness with rolls and stuff is gross but I mean you have to look at a person for what they are on the inside not just their waistline or whatever.

(I myself am 6'4 and weigh 216 pounds<-It was about 220 but I have been sick lately  ) I am not fat but I have a couple of chubby friends and it doesnt really matter lol. And a little junk in the trunk is never a bad thing

It really all depends on your body type because I'm like almost overweight but not quite there (a few more cookies and I will be  ) but the way my body is shaped I don't look fat I just look very curvatious. I know that kids can be cruel especially the ones with low self esteem themselves so I think we just need to have some positive propaganda. Like people are trying to say that the Pussycat Dolls promote "girl power" and I'm like "WTF they have perfect bodies and they dance around like strippers half naked all the time, how is that girl power?"
