I have to take the act soon, feb 10th to be exact, anyone have any advice for me? I'm shooting for a 34, but I really need some good tips about how to take it =\ i'm currently reading several books on the act and taking practice tests. I don't really know what else to do...
I've taken SAT and PSAT but not the ACT...the best thing I can think of is to do some practice test, see what you miss, and study that...
Practice test, look over some of the basic albegra and geometry equations if you haven't seen them in a while...make sure you get a good night of sleep! This first time I took the ACT I fell asleep in the middle of the science portion...definately not a fun thing to do. Oh, and take it more than once! I got a 25 the first time thanks to that science fiasco, but got myself a 29 after retaking it. It's tedious, but it's worth taking again.
remember that practice makes perfect and that no one is supposed to finish the ACT so don't get discouraged.
I scored a 32 on the ACT. What i done was took the practice test several times, and asked a lot of my teachers with help with the trig and Calculus stuff. Trust me its on there. Practice makes perfect bro. Good luck to you. p.s. dont rush!!!!
The science was the toughest part on the act for me. So make sure you work on that. It was like reading graphs and stuff. May not seem hard but after 3.5 hours of testing its going to seem impossible. (It's the last section)
My own personal experience: Take both the ACT and SAT. Most colleges will accept either/or and nearly never both, so don't think that you have to do extremely well or you're out of luck. Remember, that in most cases a wrong answer counts more than a blank one, so if you really don't know the answer, just leave it and continue on. There are plenty of other problems to keep your attention. Also, I'd only answer the question if I thought I knew how to answer it. I mean, if I saw a math problem that I remembered how to do, I'd attempt it. If, however I had no clue, skip it and if you have time, go back. Always do the ones you know first, so that you get the most points. When I took my first SAT test, I took a class twice a week ahead of time and scored...ok. It wasn't what I was looking for, but it was ok. But I figured I might as well take it again so I signed up and forgot when it was coming I ended up hearing about it the day before on the loudspeaker at school. I kind of laughed at my own stupidity, especially since I really wanted to do better, but I resolved that I didn't have time to study like crazy, so I went into it not really thinking about it and just doing the best I could. Guess what? I kicked that test's butt I can't tell you how much better people do on tests when they're not stressed out. Now, I'm not saying you shouldn't prepare for the test and forget about it, but when it come down to taking it, you'll know what you know, so there's no need to worry about it. Just do your best, and good luck.
