Here's a good debate topic and I want to hear it all.

Don't get me wrong. Im an american, and proud of it but I don't agree with the way things work sometimes.

Example one: Does your vote REALLY count?

Me and my friend fight about this alot. I'm talking big, like presidential elections. We vote because we are a democracy. But really what's the point. The people in the electoral college get to make the final deisions anyway.

Sure in a perfect world those people would listen to the majority but we all know this isn't a perfect world. One person making a decision for alot of people leads to bad news. In america alot of people think they know all the answers especially if they have power so who says they wont make theuir own decision regardless of how the masses vote. There is also the issue of bribery.

Two elections in a row were not in favor of the popular vote. Is there anything wrong with this?

Example Two: Jury of your Peers

I think it is downright WRONG that the jury condidates are actually BARGAINED for by both opposing sides in the court room.

Lots of people recieve jury summons and by law you have to serve. They ask you questions before you serve. Certain things I can understand them not wanting you to serve because of biased reasoning. If you know the person or have anything against their "type" for no reason at all.

But in most cases the lawyers are allowed to bargain for which people they want on the jury. They can also dismiss certain people.

For example. Say they are prosecuting a black man for raping a white woman. The prosecution would want as many woman on the jury as possible because we are only human and of corse your feelings will come into play through your decision. The defense might want more african americans on the jury.

They meet. The defense says I want person 4 and 6 (both african american) and the prosecutions says you can have them if I can have 1,2 and 8. (2 white femals and an african american woman)

How is this suppossed to be justice and fairness. If anything it should be random. Or the judge selects them totally.
