    sadder..

A forum like this is shown to me:

    http://www.theflatearthsociety.org/forum/index.php

The Flat Earth Society has been in existence for nearly 30 years now, and people to this day still believe that the Earth is flat (unless they are all trolls, which is possible).

If you read some of the topics, you'll get what I'm saying. If you read anything, read the FAQ. They have some pretty hilarious answers there. I came to the conclusions that the forum is littered with trolls trolling trolls trolling trolls. If you don't want to read anything, I'll sum it up for you:

    - The board discusses the validity of the round Earth "theory", and many substitute it with the flat Earth theory, which says that the Earth is flat (or slightly curved). It's all part of an elaborate conspiracy theory developed by NASA into misleading the public into believing the Earth is round for a reason I do not know (nor do these Flat-Earthers apparently).

    - There is an "end of the Earth" (meaning you can "fall" off the Earth). There are also giant ice walls that are around these ends of the Earth. The walls are about 150 feet in height. The borders of the Earth are guarded by soldiers. Antarctica does not exist, and is part of the conspiracy.

    - The map of the Earth basically is circular but puts the North Pole as the center. It basically looks like the United Nations logo.

    - Some propose that the bottom of the Earth is held up by giant turtles.

    - All photos of Earth in space are basically fake.

    - The sun only concentrates its sunlight on one spot on the Earth at a time, thus creating day and night.

    - Satellites do not exist (tell DirecTV that).

    And much much more.

3 years ago in my English class, I had a girl who seriously believed the world was flat. We were reading old stories about nature and tribal stories and my teacher asked her to draw a picture of earth on the board to demonstrate the different locations that the stories took place at. When she got up there, she drew a flat piece of land, and was dead serious. When the whole class explained to her that the Earth was round, she was amazed, and asked why we didn't just "fall" off the side of the Earth then.

    It was pretty pathetic.

Well, it just goes to show how much education makes people smarter

Without education, I'm pretty sure all of us would have believed in that

According to their beliefs, all shuttle launches are elaborate computer generated images and sattelites don't exist. Also, the world is surrounded by walls of ice 150 feet high guarded by soldiers. And it holds the ocean in.

These people are genuinely convinced this is true, this forum is a funnny read

Oh, and all of their "proof" is generated by forum members and their experiments. lol

Q: "Why has this site not been shut down by the government?"

A: Not enough people take this site seriously for it to be perceived as a threat by those involved in the Conspiracy. Shutting it down, however, might open them up to suspicion.

Q: "There's no way the government could possibly guard the entire Ice Wall! It would take too many men! Millions of men!"

A: Not really. You could do it with a few hundred men and some basic equipment. But even so there's no reason to assume the Ice Wall is guarded; the harsh conditions of the region make it very difficult to reach anyway.

Q: "Why is NASA's space shuttle runway curved?"

A: It was specially constructed by NASA to be so. After all, NASA is at the heart of the conspiracy.

edit: This is gonna be a new playground for me to sharpen up my debating skills =D

Haha well... in philosophy, we're taught to be sceptical, so I guess having doubts about the earth being round can be granted, since we can never be sure if our senses can be trusted 100%. But full scepticism is always impractical, so I'd choose to continue my belief that the earth is round! xD

The moon cycles are caused by a slow moving weather system over the face of the moon.

That explains their moon cycle -.-

This pisses me off. That there are people who refuse to see objective reality. Sad and annoying.

I've known about this for a while, and being surrounded by people who can barely function makes this very believable for me. Not every idiot on the internet is a troll. ;p
