Yeah I am starting a console game forum. and if it goes well I might buy a domain. The average prices everywhere is around 9 dollars per year, if anyone knows anything cheaper, it'd be nice to post! {Not looking for fancy extensions. Just .com or .net or .org is fine}
^ Yeah I saw their TV ads saying they are selling it for $1.99 but when I went to check they were back to 8/9 dollars again
well sometimes you can luck out found a .info for 99 cents at times then other times other ones for cheap , still cheaper then many other places Ive been so far
Eight to nine dollars is still a good deal, but watch how you pay for it. Godaddy has a BAD habit of auto charging accounts on anniversary's. There is an option to turn it off, but if you renew manually, it automatically turns it back on and you have to go back and change it again. I noticed that Yahoo! is offering domains at a competitive price, but I haven't used them, nor heard any reviews about Yahoo!.
I've heard horror stories about trying to cancel services with Go Daddy. And this site doesn't seem to like them very much either. Yahoo has cheap domains, but I believe you need to buy hosting from them as well.
All big sites have there own site. Like paypal. They are businesses and will do whatever it is to make money. Keep your friends close but your enemies closer and you should have little problems with godaddy
Haha okay, all big sites have their own hate sites. Paypal has paypalsucks.com or w/e Ebay has it. Both very big companies that millions use. So its only natural for godaddy to have one too. They don't care about small clients, and therefore if you get 1 complaints, godaddy can shut your domain down. So if you have any enemies online or real life that know you have a domain with godaddy, they can make some false complaint about you spamming and godaddy will revoke your domain. So don't have enemies. That doesn't make much sense, basically be good if you buy from godaddy.
It might be interesting to find out which domain hosts the neopoint-selling sites and cheat forums use, for example neofriends.net. Does anybody know what they are, and are they "offshore?"
Me and my dad share billing with Godaddy but were in the process of moving all of our domains as someone at their offices used my dads credit card and bought seat tickets for some sporting event. Cost $847 they were also double billing us and trying to keep the charges close to our monthly costs so we wouldnt notice...
Whqat i dont get is who registers the domain name in the first place.. like what do they register it from exactly?
Depending on how much space you need this is only a $1/month : http://www.tooniehosting.ca/ Don't think they include domains though.
I do a small bit of webhosting myself and I can sell you a domain for $8.25 per year provided you get hosting from me as well. Also, if you are looking to run a game-console forums, I believe you would need quite a bit of bandwidth. Webhosting will come with cPanel, FTP, etc, the standards. PM me for more details if you are interested.
a great place is go-daddy thats where I host my web pages and its cheap and easy to use, and the best part is I had a question once and had to call the CS at there business, and you can understand them, and they speak very proper english!!!! lol i was amazed!!!
Please be cautious of registering with businesses that REQUIRE your hosting to be at the same place as the registration. I don't know and I haven't looked into krilas' rules or agreements, so this might not be as bad as it initially sounds. However, when you find out that one service just isn't worth the price, will you be able to drop the hosting and bring your domain name elsewhere? What kind of choices are you going to be deprived of if you use services that REQUIRE you to use bundled packages?
