Well, I live in South Africa, and I'm always getting asked whether I ride to school on an elephant, do lions walk around on the streets, do I live in a mudhut.

Are there any misconceptions or stories that you've heard about where you live?

I don't understand how you could drink maplesyrup. like the physical act of "drinking" it. it's just not a drinkable substance. Its way to viscous [I had to say it. viscosity is just a cool word]
ja, it's so thick... how would one go about drinking it?

Well with my country, not really. Though I born in a region in the south of Portugal called Algarve, and now I'm living in Lisbon since 2 years ago (am currently 14). They often ask me if I don't hate Lisbon (the capital of Portugal), 'cause it almost has no beaches and no clean/warm water and Algarve has, and why did I come live here and didn't stay there. What they don't understand is that Algarve is not only roses: there's a lot of drug and weapon dealing going on there and it's getting quite busy with all the people who go there for holidays and the media. It's an awesome place to spend some holidays, but not to live there.

I live in Australia as well, but I'm sure that people around the world don't have that many misconceptions about Australia. I mean, we've had the Commonwealth Games, the Olympics in 2000, and other events that show what Australia is like. Movies like Crocodile Dundee and Kangaroo Jack seem to put a lot of cliches there. And haha, the Simpsons episode was way off the mark there. 'Oy! Prime Minister!'
That being said, there are kangaroos in the wild, and I have seen them in the towns that are further away from the cities, more in the country.
I think it would be easier to ask if we had misconceptions about other countries.
Like: In England, it rains a lot!!!
    Is that a misconception?

People think Americans are stupid, but it's just because of who represents us. I mean, if I saw Bush on television, I'd think the same thing. Plus, we have all of the southern states that kind of ruins things, too. That's generalization, but whatever. I wasn't even born in America, lol...

Sorry to any Australians, but do they like to say "Hello, mate." in a funny slang. I tend to do that with my friends sometimes. :D

Hahaha, this has turned out pretty funny!!!
Well, Americans do have the highest obesity rate! With Australia coming in second!
Ahahaha, we don't say "Hello, mate" we say "G'day mate" which is pronounced "Ger day" like, the first part of goat. If you mean in a funny accent, "Hooo, crikey!" no, not all Australians have such a strong accent. I've been told by many people that I've got a slight American accent, which I blame on Sesame Street.

Hmm....all I can think of about Holland are clogs, windmills and flowers...poppies?

We don't have polar bears in Sweden.
Also, we don't live in igloos and ride elks to work.
    In case anyone was wondering.
Also, "Scandinavia" is not a country, and the three countries you most common hear referring to as Scandinavia (Denmark, Norway and Sweden) are veeeeeeeeery different.

I feel exactly the same thing now, that I felt when I realised that Santa Claus doesn't exist :(

    definately agree with you there...

we firgured out that the misconception about the Australian accent is because of Steve, so isn't this "Eh" thing from the moose in Brother Bear that were always like, "whatcha dooin ey?"
    blame the moose

Whoever thought that polar bears were in Sweden? I dont think that it is cold enough there

so true. This is not directed at any one in particular but i do think that Americans are stupid. Yes , and it is because of bush. it is also partially because that there are so many fat people in America.

By the way, why are there so many fat people there? is it because of the food that they eat?
