Each country has there own standards of what is allowed and what isn't. I respect that, but I have never played manhunt, which is banned in some countries, but I did want to play manhunt 2. It was scrapped because it was too controversial. I don't think there are any, or many (if there are some), cases of game violence becoming real violence. People have logical minds. What if Halo, Military games, GTA started geeting banned and scrapped. That would be a big disappointment to the gaming community. Just like games that are only in one country. I almot cried, when a game I was waiting for was not coming to my country, ever.
I heard about Manhunt. It's allowed here in Holland. I think that it's a bit over the top, I can live with games like GTA and stuff, but Manhunt... But governments shouldn't ban games. A bit offtopic, but did you know that George Bush has banned casino's from Secondlife ?
No, that's insane. I don't think it will cause gambling addictions, but playboy mansion game is okay with them. Governments needs to get their priorities straight. Maybe make meaningful laws and not take the easy way out.
I'm not sure what my stance is. I think that people, in general, look for stupid ass excuses to do things, and using the videogame excuse is one of them. Maybe they should do background checks, psych checks, and all these other things to make sure someone IS smart enough to seperate reality from fiction lol
i am not sure if it is for protection or not, it might be. But i believe that it is definitely not for the prevention of fun. That would be utterly rediculus.
yeah it is dumb to ban those games i think if countries really think it is that contrevercial, just require that you have to be with someone 18 yrs or older to buy it- like R rated movies, well except that the age is 17 yeah... that way kids that are too young to make good judgement wont get to buy it because their parents wont go with them
which might encourage kids to steal the game, or get someone else to buy it for them/pay someone to buy it for them. also might cause an icrease in fake ID's age limits on purchasing things don't really work, because there are always ways to get around it.
Are you really sure? Too much often I hear or read on the newspaper crazy stuff about games' emulations. What about some Youtube videos with car races and so on? Such as people that enjoy to kill animals in the streets >__< It's not unreal thinking that it can happen also with people, like in some videogames. Recently I've also heard about two girls that decided to shoot to the first person they saw, 'cause they didn't know how to pass the time (their words). But possible examples are full many. I'm not saying that violent games cause insanity, me too plays them^^', but children and especially teenagers are the most influenceble people, and nowadays parents are too much busy and distant from them and most of schools are nomore the places that they used to be. What about if the realities that they see in videogames are the only realities that they know? Have you heard about the 14 years-old of North Carolina that put his X-box 360's power pack into the water after playing for hours and hours? And to overheat a so modern console you really have to play for hours! Or more recently the boy that died of heart attack because he remained for three days in front of the computer? What reality could they know? I've done examples of the bad influence that in general can have these new technologies... so I'm not surprised about the influence of games. As Cardenal I think that age limits are pretty useless, and it's also true that banning games could be an injustice... but I really don't understand why people have to produce so cruel games. I'd like that games producers shouldn't have to create violent games only to get rich beting on people's curiosity.
I agree totally. Come on, who checks your age when u do something like watch a movie meant for people 16years and above. If there is an age limit when buying something, get someone older to buy it for u.
