This news is a tad old, and I apologize to anyone whose already heard it. I'm not sure if anyone was following the case of Barbaro, the American Thoroughbred that won the Kentucky Derby in 2006 but shattered his leg two weeks later at the Preakness Stakes. After five major surgeries and a long stay in an equine Intensive Care Unit, Barbaro was put down January 29th due to complications from laminitis, an often fatile condition. Really sad news, as he was such a promising prospect and for a while it looked as if he may recover. He'll be missed.
Appearently his owners had some negitive attention due to the fact that many didn't think Barbaro deserved his fame. Which is stupid... Considering these last few years have seen a huge raise in the publics interest in racing.
