I'm going to make a general baseball topic just so that we don't have one for every team floating around...

Anywho, if the season were to start right now, these would be my playoff predictions...

    NL Central: Cubbies!!!
    NL East: Mets
    NL Wildcard: Phillies

    AL West: Rangers
    AL Central: Detroit
    AL East: Yankees
    AL Wildcard: Boston

I'll admit that I love the Marlins, but I think some of their success was because of how Girardi ran things. So it'll be interesting to watch Florida this year.

I picked the Rangers only because I don't like how the other teams in the West are looking.
-The A's lost Frank Thomas, who pretty much carried their entire offense last season. Losing Zito as well isn't going to help them.
-Angels haven't gotten any better, though they're still a good team. Gary Matthews is good, but not worth the 55 Mil they paid for him.
-Seattle doesn't have any pitching. It's just King Felix and Co. Other than leadoff, their lineup isn't that scary.

Rangers weren't terrible last season and, with the exception of Matthews, it's essentially the same team with a potentially great closer. A lot of the games they lost early on last year was because Francisco Cordero couldn't hold the lead. They need do Teixeira to pick it up, though.

    NL:
West - Dodgers (Schmidt + Lowe: solid 1-2 punch)
Central - Astros (Lee gives Berkman protection)
East - Phillies (Garcia and full year of Hamels: deadly rotation)
Wild Card - Cardinals (loss of Suppan and Marquis hurts but they will hold on)

    AL:
West - Oakland (Harden replaces Zito as the ace)
Central - Cleveland (finally performs up to potential)
East - Boston (tho NYY has won the division 5+ yrs straight)
Wild Card - New York (aging rotation unable to stop Boston)

How do you guys like the free agency this year? Frankly, I hated it. I was hoping the Giants would sign somebody noteworthy like Soriano, but for the 180 or so million they gave him, I'm glad the Giants are waiting for next years class. There were some horrible signings this year such as Gil Meche for 11 million a year...

My Cubs spent money on good players for once...so I'm happy :)

It's an inflated market, so what do you expect? As soon as Boston paid 51 million just to negotiate with Matsuka, you knew the prices were going to be big. That's unfair for small market teams such as Tampa Bay (whom I love, btw) and Kansas City, but I guess that's just life.

Especially unfair for the Royals and their marquee free agent signing of Meche for 11 million...of all the years they decide to spend some money and it had to be this year

I wonder why they signed Meche for 11 million? He won't get them to the playoffs and would be taking a rotation spot from the young pitchers.

guess they were just trying to make a splash in the free agent market this year... and since nobody wants to go to the royals, they got the best couldve gotten...

I thought the goal each year was to play for the WS, but I guess the money comes first for them.

Too bad the Bluejays have several question marks in their rotation or else they might be my pick for the AL East.

^ He's absolutely right! The bluejays lost Lilly, Speir..and still don't have the middle infield depth. Burnett, Chacin, 4, 5 have questions...very young bulpen even with Ryan at the back.

    Everything has to click.

Bleah they won't make it all the way, despite them as my AL East pick. Rotation is a ? mark, due to rookies and MLB inexperience, and a weak closer. Detroit, Minnesota, or Cleveland has a better chance of making it, due to a better rotation and Detroit mainly due to one more year of experience.
