If anyone here runs or contributes to a blog I could use some advice. Im trying to start my own sports blog and apart from knowing how to post and change the look i am clueless. As to getting subscribers, posting, and where to really begin I need some help. Any advice would be appreciated B) http://charmcitysports.wordpress.com/ My startup blog ^ :yup:
Well, a blog is sort of like a business even though nearly all of them don't make money (not to say you wouldn't be able to find some sponsors down the road). Word of mouth is key. If you hype it up to lots and lots of people and you aren't as good as the hype, you're basically doomed. So, I think you should start out by finding a handful of small people via a network website (myspace or something like that) and get them to join and ask people to spread the word and go from there.. It's difficult but people will trust their friends about how good a site is rather than some stranger hypin' it up, and stuff..
Wordpress has full html and limited css support. You get limited uploading capabilities (unless you feel like paying and then its unlimited). Im just trying to get people real info on sports as I cant stand opinions on local teams from big network writers who read game transcripts or just report on what people tell them, not what is actually happening.
Then do that. Make some kind of tagline out of what you just said and get started! Go find some sports forums and advertise there or something..
Wordpress has nice layouts that you can pick and choose... and a very clean menu thing... I just don't like that you can't control the css of your blog unless you pay
may need a better lay out design Don't gravedig. If a thread hasn't been in for 2 days, leave it alone. --lbadmus
I agree. People love catchy lines and gimmicks. Make yourself look open to the REAL deal, and it'll attract people who hate big-time BS as much as you. And by the way, the blog looks good. The header is a little pixely, but most people won't notice that haha. I'm just a weirdo when it comes to photoshopping.
Word of mouth is #1... post a lot on different forums, link people to your blog, like you're doing here.
