If you have a book that you are currently reading or have recently read and think it's a treasure, why not share it? What would be helpful would be somewhat of a description of the book or why it's such an amazing find along with the name/author (if you cant remember the author i'm sure the name will suffice). this is one I'm reccomending: well I have to say that "A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius" by Dave Eggers is probably one of my favorite books i've read to date. Disclaimer though: there is some... bad language (swear words so far :/) in the book. (but honestly, if you're mature/smart enough to understand what he's talking about & are interested in the book, i doubt you, or your parents, will have an issue with the language) he made me laugh and cry within the first 30 pages , and nobody died in them! Unlike some other novels *cough* http://www.amazon.com/Gap-Creek-Novel-Robert-Morgan/dp/1565122968 *cough*. He has an amazing writing style, in the preface he gives tips to better enjoy the book that include skipping large sections of the book! The book is a Memoir that "chronicles his stewardship of younger brother Christopher "Toph" Eggers following the cancer-related deaths of his parents"(wikipedia of course!). My English Teacher lent me a copy, so it's getting 2 recommendations. the Author is also a Pulitzer prize Finalist and the book is a national bestseller *to some that doesn't mean much*
well, ill start reccomendind those books that i love, and almost every good reader already read,(i think) like The Lord of the Rings Triology and Harry Potter. After, a collection that im loving to read is The Dark Tower with its 7 books (only read 3 of them). Stephen King in my opinion is the best horror author ever, and all his work is amazing. Have many others as i never stop reading. His Dark Materials - Philip Pullman The Hobbit and The Silmarillion -J.R.R Tolkien The Chronicles of Prydain - Lloyd Alexander all of them are fiction stories, with a lot of adventure, as i dont like documentaries, biographys etc ..............
What are books ? :arf: lol I only LISTEN to audio books lol I listened to the last book of harry potter so lol It would be fine for the book...maybe lol
audio books? what are they? wouldent it take a super long time to read out the entire harry potter book?
Rofl. I had the audio book the day after the release oh and they are just like .mp3's that you can just put on your Ipod/mp3 player and listen to them on the road or whatever.
The Scarlet Letter--Nathaniel Hawthorne I never read it before..and it's actually pretty good. Errr. What kind of books do you usually read?
I'd recommend the DUNE novels by Frank Herbert to anyone and everyone. Even if you're not really into the whole science fiction genre, there's still something to be said about the complicated plots, and how he intertwines politics and religion so seamlessly. I've only read the original six, though, and those are the ones I'm recommending. Haven't really looked into the ones written by his son or nephew or whatever. And if anyone wants a light-hearted, brain-cell-frying read, pick up some Georgia Nicholson books by Louise Rennison. =D
I didn't manage to get past the third Narnia book...got bored after a while. Some other decent books are the Pendragon series, D.J. MacHale writes those. And I'd also recommend Diana Wynne Jones to you guys, she writes fantasy and they're fun to read.
I read the halo series not too terribly long ago, and if you're into that game, I suggest you read them and reread them, they're amazing books and easy to picture what's going on if you've played the game before... VERY interesting!
Audio books are awesome, you just put your headphones on and listen to the book while playing some games, chatting or multitasking. A few weeks ago I listened to an entire audio book in 24 hours. 13 hours and 15 minutes and I manage listen to the whole book in one day. It helped me alot with my english test, and I had not been able to read the book in time for the test. Audio books are great when you need to get a picture of what the book is about and when you have little time to read a book, but actual reading is more fun.
I cant stand audio books. My absolute biggest pet peeve is being read to. In class I have to excuse myself if the teacher starts reading something out loud. I think it's because I speed read, and I can read so much faster than anyone can speak, so its frustrating for me. It feels like by brain is freezing up when people read out loud to me because theyre reading so much slower than I can process the words... I know it sounds weird but anyway, good books... Bad Trip by Joel Miller was a good one. I read it a few times and loved it.
I recently read Anne Frank's Diary. It's a quite boring, but at the same time, beautiful. I recomend: Sushi - Marian Keyes (hilarious... i love Keyes!)
