So I downloaded Windows 7 in an iso format, and i'm no good with burning things cuz my laptop is a big piece of fail. So I asked my boyfriend to do it. It burns a lot of things so this isn't his first time burning something what so ever.

So he burns the iso directly onto the disc {no other files} and then after it finished he tries inserting it but it doesn't really boot. So my question is, did we do it wrong, or it's just not suppose to boot like a regular disc {Though I don't see why not}. If I were to use this disc and install it onto Macbook's Book camp, how will I go about doing that if the disc won't boot? ><

Weird,it should ask whether you want to boot from cd/dvd!!

Ok try this after you start the computer go to bios (f2 or del)and change boot order first optical media(dvd drive) then hard disk..

Or you can access advanced boot menu to boot from selected dvd/cd drive..I dont know the key for this..try googling!

First, be sure that the version of windows 7 you downloaded is bootable.
There's some user repackaged release and some may cause trouble.

If it's the OEM version, just be sure to write it using the lowest writing speed possible.
Dunno why, but fast writing speed always bring me problem during installation (XP, VISTA, MAC OSX)

Hmm, as I recall I think it was a retail version :|
Also, I actually haven't tried booting from it.
I thought it would run as soon as the disc is in the drive. At least, the Windows XP one did.
I dunno what to do now. There's not a lot of torrents for Windows 7 out there so this is probably the best I can find.

Open up the CD. Do you see a .iso file in it?
If you do, then you burned the CD incorrectly.

An iso is just an archive (like a zip). When you burn it to a CD, it should extract the contents to the CD as opposed to simply copying the iso over. Most CD burning programs have a separate option for doing this.

^ That's probably the problem Zer0. What kinda programs extract it? Would they ask? I actually gotta look at how he burnt it..I highly doubt it extracted.

If you already have the iso on the disc then it was burned correctly.

1.Now put in the disc and shut down your computer.

    2. When you turn the power back on press F2 (I think that is the common button you press it should be listed on the screen in the brief moments of it showing your motherboard screen..if its not that then maybe its F8 F10 or F4...just hit them all)

    3. You should be brought to a screen where it lets you change your BIOS settings.

    4. Navigate through and find the section for changing your boot sequence.

    5. Make Boot from CD/DVD number 1 and take everything else off (I have known some computers to have it set to boot from CD first but for some reason it would still skip that step if boot from HD was still on this list)

    6. When you save your settings and exit it should ask you to boot from Disc.

    7. Install your OS and when your done you might have to change it back to boot from HD if it didn't change back automatically.

Let me know if this works.

Well is it the same if i'm installing it on boot camp? I'm not trying to upgrade windows. I burned the disc just for my boot camp.

    Is this directed towards me?

If so then this way will boot from your CD so instead of going straight the OS you can choose to install another OS, clear a partition, repair, upgrade, or do nothing and just restart again.

Is the computer your trying to install it on the one you happen to be on now? If not I can help walk you through it while your doing it.

my computer seems to hate disks that are burned with iso images. can't read them at all. eventually I just gave up and used daemontools, which is actually a pretty nifty program

That's because computers cant read ISO files directly.

Mooie, all you need to do is extract the files from the ISO. You can do this using winrar or something. Then just burn all those files to the disk.

What size is the .ISO? It's possible that you may need a dual layer DVD, and in order to burn correctly to a dual layer you'll need to know the layer break and set it accordingly in your burning program, or it simply won't work. If the .ISO is over 4.7 gigs in size, it requires a dual layer and the appropriate layer break setting. If it isn't that big, make sure you're using the right program settings to burn it. Use the free program ImgBurn and select "Write image file to disc". It should work. If it doesn't, you may have downloaded a bad or corrupted image file.

    The .iso file is 2.7GB.

Zer0, I tried this and it seems to boot now, when the CD boots it asks for permission to run sperr32.exe is that right? And I just get an error saying that it's not compatible with my windows so does that mean that it works fine and I would be able to install it onto boot camp using the same CD? I'm not exactly sure if this is the "upgrade" CD tbh >< Cuz if it is I don't think it'll work on boot camp since there IS no previous versions of windows on it.
