I am thinking about going camping on summer break, with some friends of mine. I am totally new to this kind of experience, and I have a lot of doubts to be cleared before telling my parents xD
Sooooo, let's start with the questions.
1: Generally, are there specific areas where you can go camping with tents and all that stuff, or are you free to camp wherever you want?
2: What about water? Do you have to take a HUUUUUGE amount of it in case of absence of rivers/streams nearby?
3: Yeah, this is embarrassing. What about pee'ing (well this isn't really a problem, at least for me, as I'm male) and poo'ing? °-°'
4: Food. Are there 'common' foods for campers? (noooot beans plz :D)

That's what has come to my mind for now...

before you go make sure you find a good camping ground... not familiar with your neck of the woods. make sure it is a sight where you can have fires and whatnot.

also if your going to party (drink and stuff) dont go to a family camp site because you can get kicked out of wherever you are.. also i think there are lot fees but its not too expensive. but it depends where you go.

bring lots of water .. dont drink stream water and also make sure you bring supplies so you dont run out.. and be safe

lol.. whatever you do dont put make sure your tent is away from the fire. my buddies friend left set up a tent like 3 feet away from a brning fire and when we came back from our drunk walk his tent burned down lol.. [...]

i would suggest bring lots of can food but at the same time bring a mini barbecue so you can cook things on... also dont leave your food outside .. nears be coming and say dam what a meal.

I second what Ak said. I would definitely find a campsite and not just drive around a find somewhere to set up camp...it usually doesn't work out very well. Most campsites have portapotties or something similar, so you won't have to worry about that.

Also, don't bring perishables unless you have a cooler that will stay cold for an extended period of time or if you plan on eating them the first night you're there. Canned and dried foods are best.

And be courteous to future campers and keep yor site clean. Dispose of your ashes properly and bring garbage bags for everything else. Have fun :)

OMG I lol'd at this sooo much not at the fact your unsure just at the fact of how much I hate camping and what I would love to write for some answers but the truth is to all answers it depends:

    1. You can pretty much camp anywhere I would try to avoid bog or places with near by swamps and murkey aras like that that there tends to be way more bugs and mosquitoes there and keeping them away is hell. No matter where you go may sound gross but avoid perfume , soap anything like that bugs and mosquitoes LOVE it The places you probabl can't camp at is owned land and although some places don't look owned and more like forest they are so make sure.

    2. It all depends where you are going camping, if you are going to a camping park where you have to pay for a lot and such they usually have water there for people and most even have a local store, washrooms and even showers but you really have to pay for them.

    3. Your a guy peeing is easssy but if nature calls and your not in a camping park or there are no out houses then look for a bush lol, What we did the last camping trip was pack extra shopping bags a big bucket and toilet seat. When someone needed to go they would place the bag in the bucket toilet seat over and used it that way. Sounds gross is gross another reason I HATE camping like that. Remember your toilet paper or you will need to find some non poison leafs lol

    4. As for food it all depends what equipment you have. Make sure you have a cooler filled with ice for those foods that are not in cans and for those that are make sure you have a can opener! Hot dogs & marshmallows are a must its not camping without them, roasting them on a stick. some people bring camping spots and pans and even mini grills and such for the camp fire which means they can eat almost any food they bring. Just remember what ever you decide to bring to eat think ahead on how you will be cooking these things and keeping them cool if needed :)

    It helps :p

    sage advise right here.

Regarding what Ang said. Screw camping spots, get in a 4x4, get pissed, and drive around until you get bored and then set up camp (of course if on a public road then the driver shouldn't drink ;) )

Water: Take a ratio of water:beer. 1 litre of beer = 1 litre of water. If your at a camping site most will either have running water or will have a guide to which streams or dams nearby are drinkable or potable.
Toilet: Take a leak behind a bush and most likely you will end up at a camping site so there are always pit toilets or flushable toilets nearby.
Food: Take chips, lots and lots of chips. You need nothing else. Besides maybe salsa. No joke.

PS. Take a fishing rod if theres any fishing locations nearby. Totally worth it. Beer + Chips + A line cast = EPIC. (I did an equation)
