What context do you use the word 'noob' in? Do you use it to refer to someone with a low account age? Do you use it when referring to an inexperienced player? Do you use it when you run out of insults? Do you use it when you've been proven wrong? I, myself, use the second choice - I usually use it when referring to an inexperienced player. How about you?
When someone's genuinely new or inexperienced, and wants to/is willing to learn, then I regard them as a newbie. If someone's being immature, flaming, doing really stupid things to scam people, typing liek dis all the time, etc., then I regard them as a n00b.
When someone's inexperienced or new and doesn't try to learn the game for himself and instead annoys and pesters me for help and free stuff.
this topic has been explored so many times it's not even funny. i don't know why so many people want to emphasise the difference between newbies and noobs so much. but yeah, noob is generally an ignorant moron newbie=someone new
I use the 2nd statement you said. Although, normally I prefer not to use it as there isn't a real point behind saying it >.<
