Is it predetermined? Personally I feel as though we live in the world we choose to, creating our life and the events in it. We live in our minds, expressed through visuals we choose to see, feeling emotions we choose to feel or what we think we have to feel. Some people are sold on the idea that we have to feel a certain way, reacting as if they were a zombie. And this causes people misery because they feel as though they have no control over their lives, as if they were puppets... But we are not puppets. What do you think?
I feel that I make my own choices and do wat I think is appropriate. I dont want to be a puppet, as you said
I believe you create your own destiny by the choices you make. If you make different choices, your life will look differently.
I beleive you create it, if i was to sit at home all day and never get a job, that would be my decision and i would be ruining my life but it's not pre-determined it would be my laziness.
I may not be able to speak for countries that are not strongly affected by a central government, but as for the majority of the Post-industrial countries, we have been taught not to challenge. From an early age we have been molded to be slaves to the system. For example our schooling system is teaching us what is valuable. However, who decided that which we are taught is valuable? Those people who decided this FOR us, are truly the ones in power because they can decide what we will believe later on in life for the most part. After reading texts on various paradigms of sociology I concluded that the brain is not fully capable of knowing what it was created to do until it is exposed to social interactions. So it is our environment that shapes us, and we become entirely dependent on this environment in order to find who "we are".
we sure can. We choose to do or not to do smth which will surely affect our lives. But then again it was our destiny to do that thing XD
My understanding of sociological paradigms is superficial at best, but I kind of agree with what you're saying here... Also, I've been thinking about how much "freedom" people really have. If a person is born into a poor family, his/her choices are very limited. Technically, this person is "free" to make the choice of doing well in school, going to college, and getting a good job, but he/she must overcome so many more social, economical, and cultural barriers do to so than a person from a rich family... So in a way, our actions are determined by social forces and other circumstances beyond our control...
Thank you xavarn, you brought many good points to the discussion that I was hoping for. Many people are very much slaves to the system. We are all taught how to act or respond. We all have learned behavior not only from THE system, but many systems such as our families. Each person can show us right or wrong, but right and wrong is RELATIVE. And although there is a huge difference between right and wrong, it is often misconstrued, mainly by the system. In these Post-industrial countries we sacrifice right and wrong for a buck, because everything is ran through the monetary system, which is the main system that we are all slaves too. It's a distraction from finding "WHO WE ARE." We give up our dreams our childhood ambitions to survive the money system. "If life was a thing that money could buy, the rich would live and the poor would die." And we all fight for the buck, many people doing immoral and outrageous things. So, in a way we are slaves to society, but isn't there a way to break free? Or do we not have that choice? "Freedom is just another word for nothing left to lose." And having nothing to lose is a STATE OF MIND. When you free yourself, you're free. This has nothing to do with your surroundings, but internally. Life is an inward experience and most people tend to view life as an outward experience. Looking for objects is outward, changing and growing is inward. If you free yourself from outward living, and live inwardly, and mysteriously, then you may be free. When you lose what you've been taught and find you're own ways, when you find what makes you happy, and most importantly when you know that change is inevitable, but object is not, then freedom from these systems is possible. If you KNOW this, then you have nothing to lose, and everything to gain. And when you are gaining you are not a puppet, there are not strings, you are not a slave.
I think people live how they want to live , possibly certain events are made to happen to us. I think everyone makes their own decisions, and also that when it is your time to go . Its your time , their is no way out of it.
Well of course you do. This is your life. If you wanna be a fuck up then be a fuck up. If you wanna go to Harvard go to Harvard. This is your life. Be who you want to be. Not who someone wants to mold you into. :3
