This computer came with Sonic DigitalMedia, or whatever it's called. It's great for backing up, but..
I'm backing up .avi files. Which is okay, when I'm wanting to play things on a computer. Drag them to hard drive and play, all is well.

What I'm wondering, and I know it's somewhere, is something that has some (All, would be fantastic!) of these features.

    - Multiple sessions. The files I'm burning range from 700mb to 850, so I can fit several onto a single DVD. Would like to be able to have a "selection" of sorts. Pick which video plays when put into a DVD player.
What I do is store .avis on my computer, which has a small screen when compared to a televison. I stream those movies to my XBox and watch from there. (TVersity. Woot!)

Pretty much what I'm hoping for is something that doesn't have a fit when several movie files are on a disc, and can play all of them when placed into a DVD player while still retaining a video format so I can take them back off of the disc and play them on computer or 360.

If you do want to compress avi's to play on a dvd player theres a program called convertXtodvd. lets you convert single or multiple videos into a dvd folder which will play when burnt onto dvd. Ive used this to burn several episodes of a show onto a dvd and watched it on my tv.

If thats not what you mean please explain?

What I'm wanting, is something that'll make .avis playable on a DVD player without messing their format up. Burn 'em as .avi and they stay like that.
    Is it possible?

What you need than is a divx capable Dvd player.
I bought one yesterday and I'm impress: HDMI, 1080p upscaling, read Divx (yes, this include Xvid too :p), mp3, wma, jpg... blah blah blah. There's also a usb2.0 port on it so you can plug your hdd or usb key to read stuff from it and it's working damn good. I usually put around 6 avi files on a dvd and voila... you can still read those with your pc/xbox and your dvd will read them too.
FYI, I bought the philips dvp5990 for 60$ca. Quite a bargain IMO considering what it can do.
edit: I haven't answered the Q: no, there's no way to make a dvd player read avi file except for the above case.

The above case sounds perfect, then!
I had just been keeping the movies on my computer, which isn't very good for space. Or considering that it's due to die within months.
So I've started putting them to DVD.

Think you could get me some sort of picture of the interface that the DivX player has, when you're choosing between movies?
I'd prefer not to have to dance around in settings and such, especially for that much. ( I'm still in school, 60 is a lot for frivilous. :( )

See the image attached to this post...
on the example, you on the folder MP3 on an usb device. There's 2 mp3 and 1 image.
The empty space at right will display a preview of the image when selected.
It's the same menu if you pop in a dvd with divx movies. You'll see the listing and you can select the one you want.

Futhermore, this player can be modded (background and such) using the USB port and unlocking the region is 1 step away (a matter of pressing 5 digit on the remote :D )
