"pwn "as well as "pwned" "pwnful", I have searched them in wiki and still didn't get to understand them ... :| So, what exactly does these terms mean? And where did they originate from? Thanks
pwn originates from a misspelling of own. It's used as a verb meaning to own (duh) or dominate or as the adjective pwnful, meaning awesome. These links should help http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=pwn http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=pwned
The urbandictionary.com is quite helpful! Lots of stuffs i have been confused are well-organized and completely-answered. Your help was greatly appreciated :tehe:
I believe it originates from a typo from Unreal Tournament. Idk which one but that was always my understanding.
How do you guys pronounce it? Do you still pronounces it as "own" or do you say "pawn" or "Poawn" etc... everybody pronounces it in different ways, apparently its supposed to still be "own"
The origin is a Warcraft II custom game in which a player's elimination would result in that said player being shown the message "You were pwned", instead of "you were owned". It caught on. It's pronounced one of a few ways. owned (silent p) powned (just owned with a p in front) pewned (pooned) pawned (like a chess pawn) The first two are the most popular.
I think "pwnt" is probably the most used version, well on the games and websites I use anyway... Loving the pwnt
Haha, whenever I'm playing fps games, I always say "ownt" xD Not sure exactly WHY this happens, but words tend to become disfigured over time >.>
LOL when I first heard it..a couple of years back, everyone said it and i'm like "WTF THAT IS A RIDICULOUS WORD YO" But yeah..when everyone says it, who am I to say shut up? My boyfriend and I say it to each other JUST FOR FUN. It's not like we'd be playing games and actually say "HAHAH I PWNT YOU" Some people at school say it in real life..seriously it sounds...weird and nerdy that someone is using that in their vocabulary in a regular basis D:
I pronounce it as pooned, sounds nice and is easy to say Though I like the original version of owned better for talking. In writing pwned is better imo
Oh gosh, I've only seen a few people use online words offline... Honestly, I think it sounds ridiculous.
haha i never knew what that meant until now! i always thought it was an acronym although not sure what it'd stand for..
OKKKK!!! I never thought it would mean this! Why change the "o" to a "p"; sometimes things are so strange and yeah the link is great even though some words are quite obvious
It meas that if you pwn some one that u will beat them at something or that your better than them. It is used at my school a ton and it's getting really annoying
