http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/world/europe/10611398.stm France's lower house of parliament has overwhelmingly (335 in favor, 1 against) approved of a bill that would ban the wearing of the Islamic full veil in public. The bill will become law if it is approved by the senate. Supporters of the ban claim that it is meant to protect women from dehumanization, while opponents criticize the bill as "nothing more than the fear of those who are different, who come from abroad, who aren't like us, who don't share our values". So what do you think?
well when they give the reason of "protecting women from dehumanization", it makes sense.. i am living in a country where i see malays all the time but i don't really see the Islamic full veil in public much..i think that the very least that the french govt. can do is do let the people in france to have the freedom to wear what they deem fit, not ban something like this..its racism IMO..
Well it has to be considered that many women don't wear the veil because they want to or choose to, they wear it because their husbands/fathers/brothers/etc. force them too. That being said, there are alot of women who do wear it by choice, and this is really insensitive.
It's hard to say because in my mind I believe that a lot of women are being forced to wear it, but it probably is true that some are wearing it by choice. So... I think they should stay on the safe side let people wear what they want to.
Is it me, or are Europeans very wary of Muslims? (I suppose it's because they receive more Muslim immigrants than other countries...) Last year in Switzerland, there was a national referendum that approved of a ban on future minaret construction.
I think this is correct and im sure the UK will follow, if a biker wears a crash helmet and goes into a shopping centre he/she will have to take it off so same rules should apply to veils
