First of all, want to say this is my first guide ever made, so feel free to post any mistakes or anything . What does a VPN server do? Short said, as soon as you connect to a VPN server, you get a "new" connection. Your provider won't be able to track you completly anymore, and the most important thing: You get a new I.P. How do i get it? First i want to say that there are many many many VPN servers, for different countrys, but, sadly, i've found only a few working one, so for now, i will tell you how to use the VPN server i am using to: SecureIX SecureIX ( http://www.secureix.com ) is a site that has a few public VPN servers, both free and premium ( paid ), but no worries, the free one is good to ! So what do i need to do? Well, you will need to make an account first, which is very very simple to make. When you open the website, at the top is the sign-up button ( http://www.secureix.com/signup.shtml ) and all you have to do is make a name and a password. ( NOTE: Currently you arn't able to sign-up, and i don't have any solution for it, so let's just hope they fix it asap. ) Once you done that, you can log-in with that on the SecureIX website with that name and password, and ofcourse, log-in to the VPN server. After you got your account, you will need to put the VPN server up, there is also a link in your e-mail on the website how to do it, but i will put it in here to with some more info. 1. Enter the 'Control Panel' 2. Select 'Network Connections' 3. Click on the "Create a new connection link" NOTE: You might get something open first about a phone connection, just fill in some numbers at the open places, then press ok, close the new connection link bar, and do it again ( can't be very specific as it only comes once, and i solved this a very long time ago ) 4. Select "Connect to the network at my workplace" 5. Select "Virtual Private Network Connection" ( If you can't tick any of the options, see the note at step 3. ) 6. Enter "SecureIX" as the company name ( Name doesn't matter though ) 7. Select "Do not dial the initial connection" 8. Enter "66.150.105.11" as the Host name NOTE: The original was vpn.secureix.com, but this has firewall enabled, and any VPN servers of secureix with a firewall you will only beable to check their site and forums. NOTE2: if 66.150.105.11 doesn't work, try 66.150.105.18.(you can change by right clicking SecureIX, then properties) 9. Check the "Add a shortcut to this connection to my desktop" 10. Click "Finish" After you done that, open the VPN server ( if it didn't automaticly already ) which should be on your destkop or network connections. When it's opened, you will have to log-in, the login and password is the account you just created. BIG NOTE: all letters must be undercase, so if you made a account like QwErTy@SecureIX.com, you will have to fill in qwerty@secureix.com If all went well , you will have a new connection down right, and you will have a new I.P. also! Some things you should know 1. This is an American proxy, so the speed will differe depending where you live, but it should always be a reasonable speed. 2. Every time you log-in , you get a new I.P! 3. I might be the only one with this problem, but, if you can't log-in ( you filled in your information correctly though ) the server is to crowded, or offline. I suggest you get the other I.P. then, or wait 5 minutes. Well, i think this is all i have to say for now, i'll add more things if i forgot it, and will add more things as i can think of it. I hope this was helpfull!
So in fact this is just a proxy site ? viewtopic.php?f=22&t=4263 Maybe ask Marlene to add this one to that thread then ? Because that's a proxy guide.
It is a proxy yes, but those kinds of proxy's are only for HTTP ( browsers ), while this is for your whole pc, as in, if you were playing a game, you'd have the proxy I.P. to, while if you had a HTTP proxy, it would only be for your webbrowser. But hmmm....i'd still say VPN is something else than a HTTP proxy, since a VPN overlays your whole connection, while a HTTP proxy just does it for www sites. They both do the same thing though, hide your I.P. But i got to say, this is easier to set-up then a HTTP proxy
nah, proxys are WAY simpler. just get the proxy and go to Tools -Options - Advanced *Networks .Settings and there you set the proxy XD uhm, okay, it could be a bit harder than that, but if you learn it you'll be able to change it anytime you want
i disagree on that, there are so many proxys, and mostaly they never work as you want, while once you set up this VPN proxy, you can just open connection, fill in password, and done. And a VPN proxy is for everything, not just the website, so if you have like a autobuyer without proxy support, or your not 100% sure if it's actually working, you can just put the VPN proxy on, and your good to go
