Has anyone been to Amsterdam?

Has anyone been to, or lives, in Amsterdam?

I'm thinking of going at the end of the summer but I wanted to get some suggestions first. Is there any great places to go, good hotels/hostels and restaurants etc?

Or just a general idea, was the experience good or bad?

 

Yes, I lived there for a bit over a year when I was younger.
It's such a great place to be, but if you get the opportunity I suggest you go near one of the Holiday's they celebrate, it's a great experience.

Do you mean like Grachtenfestival or Uitmarkt, would it not be too busy then?

 

My boyfriend and I are planning on going at the end of next month. There are some great guide books you can get on Amazon! You can get 'alternative' guides if you're interested in the less mainstream aspects of places like this. The Museum of Sex (I bet that'll be filtered) looks fun. We went to the one in New York so we're going to have to go to the one in Amsterdam too

I had a friend who visited Amsterdam a few weeks ago, he said it was the best vacation he ever took. If you get a chance to go, I'm envious of you!

 

The Museum of Sex (in NY) was quite interesting...I so want to see how the one in Amsterdam compares. Let me know how it is.

No Amsterdam's not in the US, it's in the Netherlands, in Europe.

Yea kind of. It's not so much legal, just tolerated. You can buy cannabis and magic mushrooms in 'coffee shops'...

I'll def go to the museum of sex when I'm there, it sounds good!! We still havn't set a date for going, will see how the summer goes. I'm looking forward to it though!

Before that, I'm off to London next week 'cause my bf just moved down there. (from Scotland) Also looking forward to that, I'm going to make him take me to the zoo, I hope they have giraffes there...

I'm sure there are other places in amsterdam where you can get the live demonstrations though haha
