I'm still questioning if I want to at the moment but in the future I definitely will I'm just interested what got you to stop.
I never actually smoked before but try this one : whenever you feel the temptation to smoke try getting a toothpick and press it gently on the lob of your ear. Do this everytime you feel it. IF it doesn't work, try to get in a yoga-shaolin-position with the legs crossed and close your eyes. Imagine that the urge to smoke is a flame and try to control it. In the first days try to decrease the flames reducing their intensity until they are not there. Try to spent more days on decreasing like 1 month or so. If that still doesn't work then try those tabacco bubble gums. It's called Nicorette.
Nothing suppresses the urge when I have vodka running through my veins and I'm drunk 90% of the time xD
if youve never smoked you really dont understand what it feels like trying to quit.. and telling someone what you "think" will work is just waste of time. ive smoked for 6 years.. i quit about a year and a half ago. nothin really helps.. patches/tabaco gum/hypnotism/yoga = all bs... the only thing that can help u quit is you! if you really dont want to smoke u wont.. simple as that.. its all in the brain.. if ur only thinking about quiting but not sure then u wont be able to.. u have to WANT to quit in order for u to succeed... the first week is the hardest.. by far... and try not to "cut down" by having 1 or 2 a day only.. it wont help the situation. just stop. after about 3 - 6 months of not smoking, you will feel the best youve felt in years.. [edit] and yeh.. trying not to smoke while drinking is the worst.. lol.. u just have to get used to it.
well it actually works but these are the basic methods. You are right, though, the only thing that can help you is yourself.
I think that is my issue even though I have times where I'm like I want to quit so much the next day I'll be like I want to smoke! I've got to 2 weeks without smoking twice but I just enjoy it I guess. The 3rd day when your trying to quit is evil!
I successfully stopped smoking... weed. But then again weed isn't addictive as compared to the massively addictive cigarette. I stopped by simply not having any weed. Don't buy it. If you don't buy any, you can't smoke. **This is also my way of saving. I just don't carry money with my. XD I used to spend about... twenty dollars a day because I'd carry about forty with my at all times. Not I only have about three dollars on me at any given time. It's a good feeling knowing that you actually have a positive balance in your bank account.
Uhnn. I've had some friends who were pretty heavy smokers, but they have quit completely. I suppose you just have to find something else to distract your mind while you're craving for a smoke.
Although, my dad quit and he gained a bunch of weight because he would eat chex mix whenever he had a craving hehe.
All that money the government received should be for that question alone. the chemicals and nicotine are one of the most addictive substances. Your better off trying to stop crack than smoking. Ultimately it is u and u alone who will quit, and you just have to be totally fed up with the habit all together. I continue to smoke myself, but quit several times up to 8 weeks. Smokers always have an excuse of some kind to continue. I tried hypno-which got me to 10 cigs and no further!!!! 10 Stuck in the brain. The patch takes the edge off, but the addiction remains. So far cold turkey is the best way. I suggest treating it like other addictions. Commit yourself, and since they won't hospitalize yet, take a vacation until you have your strength. im with katherine---Puff Puff Please do not double post - Commy
I quite smoking on nov first for me and my girlfriends one year. i chew tabacco like no other though.
For anyone who hasnt quit yet, I urge them to quit as fast as possible. The longer you wait to quit, the more addicted you get and the more badness you feel upon your self for not trying and then you never try.
I smoked for only a year, and I easily quit. I think you just need the motivation and the real want to quit. If you deep down don't actually want to quit you wont be able to. But if you REALLY want to, you can quit. Just stop buying cigarettes. Don't let yourself buy them. Ignore cravings and they will go away... Just don't let them rule your life.. Or, maybe you just need to grow a backbone and get off the alcohol.
A whole year? Man Im not exactly sure how you possible did that but I am sure that there are a lot of people out there wishing they could quit as easy as you. Like I said, its a horrible habit and its not very attractive to admit. A lot of people say that they may like it when they see a "sexy" young lady sitting at a table with a cigarette in between two fingers and they might think that it is actually very attractive. Perosnally, I think its a repellant for guys with respect. I urge EVERYONE out there to never, ever, ever try a cigarette or if you already have and you got addicted, please start quitting now before it hits you hard.
Wow you've made me see the error of my ways I'm off to join the convent ^^ Thanks for all the constructive comments =] I guess I'll just need to really want to quit which at the moment isn't the case I have bursts of 10 minutes where I'm determined and then I lose that train of thought and start puffing away xD I know I will quit eventually I get bored of all of my addictions at some point I suppose I just need to find a good reason to quit.
Best way to throw an addiction or habbit is to go into issolation where its impossible for you to give in. Ie, Go hunting or camping for 4 days. No shops around, impossible for you to go buy somemore.
I quit the day I found out I was pregnant. It was really easy for me, since I wasnt doing it for myself, but for my unborn child. I wanted to give him the best start possible, and smoking is just so bad for you... The sad part of the story? My son is now almost 2 and Im smoking again xD Never around him of course, and I always wash my hands before touching him after having a cigarette.
