    oh it can be...for a few blocks (business/shopping district)
    but it can also be slummy (imagine smelly street shops selling fresh fish with innards/trash all over the road =P)

    and it's super humid+hot in the summer >___<

    China has cleaned most of the dirty alleyways before the Olympics. The whole country has seriously changed in those few months. Like when I got there last summer, the airport was absolutely amazing. It was really stunningly beautiful and everything. And as we went around, even some of the less corporate quarters of the city were at the very least clean and devoid of fish guts on the floor.
