    I'm thinking around $1300 USD

Spec me out one for GAMING.

I'd prefer Intel processors and NVIDIA cards over AMD

    I'm thinking i7 with a GTX570

I assume $1300 will get you something good over there? Because over here you'd get fuck all for that price... :(

I'm saving as we speak. Looking at $3,500 for what I want... :( (thanks to lightning!)

Psst, Junior, I might have a better solution for you that will cost maybe $1000+ less.

Check out the new Intel Core i7-3930K (3.20GHz). It has destroyed on the benchmarks, and it is one of the first commercial CPUs to utilize quad-channel memory. And you'll have more to spend on the GPUs.

EDIT: Oh and Charlie, I'll get you set up with a whole build over the weekend (every single part).

I still do but apparently the NVIDIA Kepler card is taking too long. Still I would be content with a GTX570

Bump to remind Lightning, also if you go up to 1400 thats alright and this is for the RIG only. I still have to purchase monitors, Keyboards, Windows 7, and all that stuffs.

    Processor
Name: Intel Core i7-2600K Sandy Bridge 3.4GHz (3.8GHz Turbo Boost) LGA 1155 95W Quad-Core Desktop Processor Intel HD Graphics 3000
    Quantity: 1

    Cheapest Found: link - ~$300

Don't worry about the integrated graphics, you can use another one.

    Motherboard
Name: GIGABYTE GA-Z68MA-D2H-B3 LGA 1155 Intel Z68 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 Micro ATX Intel Motherboard
    Quantity: 1

    Cheapest Found: link - ~$125

    Memory
    Name: (2 x 4GB) Memory Sticks
    Quantity: 2

    Example: link - ~$70

16GB should be more than enough. 1600MHz in my example, you can upgrade/downgrade as you please.

    Power Supply
Name: Modular Supply (80 PLUS ratings are better efficiency)
    Quantity: 1

    Video Cards
    Name: GTX 590 (Fermi) 3GB
    Quantity: 1

    Cheapest Found: link - ~$575

The GTX 590 actually has better performance than the HD7970 due to the 590's dual GPUs. Or you could wait for some GTX 600 dual cores and/or dual core HD7000 series.

Storage: it is really up to you what you want. Some people arrange so that their boot drive is an SSD (30GB) and their files go into a HDD (500-1000GB). Or you could invest in a large SSD if you feel it is the best option although they are quite expensive. Finally, if you want to spend less, you could buy a high-end HDD with a RAID controller. Since I don't find the need for an SSD as much, a fast HDD would be good enough for me + RAID.

    Final Price: approximately $1070

Here was my basic build. Of course I didn't include monitors, keyboards, OS, a case, and storage. You could swap many things as you see fit like the motherboard if you need more/less slots. Also, look for cheaper prices - I didn't do all of the research there.

If I may, why did you go with a micro-atx mobo?

Well I didn't really 'choose' the micro-ATX - it just had what he needed. Of course, Charlie, if you want more expand-ability (especially PCI slots), definitely go with a standard ATX.
