I can put it together, but since I am building it, I want to put only the best (or very good) in it. I dont really have a set budget, but don't want to spend much more than a couple thousand on it. So what things should I get for it, it would be used for both school and some random gaming.

All you really need is a little over $1500 for a pretty beast gaming rig. I'd get the core i7-930 2.8ghz cpu, a good sized SSD (solid state drive), possibly a EVGA or XFX gtx 285, 6 gb of ddr3 ram is more then enough, very important buy a GOOD mobo (motherboard) don't skimp on it and you will be pleased. The rest such as psu (power supply) dvd drives w/e fans heatsinks and such are really up to you but if you need any help feel free to shoot me a pm, I'm my own technician :D

Are you fine with ordering online? If so I can work on a gaming build for you from Newegg. Just tell me what kind of stuff your looking for. Do you need a new keyboard and mouse, monitor, hard drive, dvd drive, power supply, etc?

I can suggest the Gigabyte P55-UD5 as a good mobo, it's solid and has plenty of space for what ever you want to throw at it.
As mentioned earlier, I also very much suggest Intel's i7's.
DDR3 Ram is a must, don't be like me though, I got 8gig of it and really, nothing my comp can do needs that much. I would suggest 4-6 gigs.
PSU is not usually emphasized in building comps but try to get as much as you can, 700 if you can, 600 only if necessary.
Apart from that... Graphics card... The higher the better, oh and you need to make up your mind between nVidia and ATI. ATI is generally slightly faster, however nVidia is far more reliable. Your pick.

PS. You said you don't have a budget so...

    don't forget a kickass 32 inches + fullHD screen ;)
I'd switch my dual monitors for a 37 inches anytime.
