    Hey,

I'm a teenager, live in New York, and my first name is Matt.
Mmmm.. general forum introduction... I play soccer, enjoy mythology, hate foreign language and have a decent internet connection (or at least did before I discovered torrents and ruined my households' connection speed). Fun fact: I actually have terrible spelling. I had a neopets account a couple years ago and my friend joked (I doubt I can post the full context on this board) that I should check my neopet to see if it "killed itself from hunger" yet (I haven't been on for some years...)
So I logged on a few months ago, saw I had stock market stuff, etc, etc, and remembered when I used to train my pet, shop for those krawk island coins, etc... And I made this account hoping to get more neopoints with programs and such.

My recollection of my account in neofriends.net happened in a moment of great need (and boredom). I actually made this account a little bit ago (actually, some months ago) but I recalled making it and hoped that maybe some members here could help me out.
I'm looking to make my own 'hack' programs (I really wouldn't consider this hacking...) for myself and others to use. Problem is, I just got a macbook pro (like getting a computer could ever be a problem :p) and don't have windows. So I'm forced into the dark pit that is Mac programming...
After googling it for an hour, I decided to learn objective C (this was yesterday). After watching some videos, making a "hello-world" app, learning variable statements and basic arithmetic I decided to look - no, wrong word - embark on a journey to find a programming community.
4 forum sign ups later, and bored as sh*t, (August 25th, 2:00 AM) I remembered that I have a neofriends.net account and I saw that there was a programming section here. Eureka!

I think I'm the next homer, because that story was epic. (slight pun intended)

If you know object C and can help me out, either PM me or email me at c.h.y.p.e.m.@gmail(dot)com (no perioids inbetween the letters, just not sure if the system will allow me to post an email)

For all those non-coders, hey, I'm Matt. XD

Hi Matt, welcome to NF.net and goodluck with programming.

Why not learn something more common like Java?

Hey Matt! Glad to have you here, we really need programmers like you :).

C is a great programming language. It is old and is actually very difficult, and I suggest a programming language with simpler syntax like VB.NET, but if you can handle it, more power to you. Oh and by the way, C is used more for OSes than executables, so Neopets programs would be more difficult to make in that. I am also a programmer, so if you need any help, you can ask me anytime! I know C++ and C# which are derived from C, so I understand the general syntax :p.

Oh and emails are definitely allowed on here, unless they are advertising/scamming. Please do check out the rules (below) for all the official stuff.

I just sort of assumed that C was the common one... Mac + PC... :p
I also couldn't find Java under the programming language list in xcode.
I found a tutorial for java online (super-basic one) and it seemed less... friendly than C, etc.

I'm not (+ can't) use visualbasic because I'm a macintosh user :O It looks super friendly too, so it's a shame I can't make programs with it. (On another note, I would rather support the mac-scene)

So C++ and C# are both derived from C. Which is better to start off on, C++ or C#?
+ I'll be using Apple's Xcode, is xcode capable of handling both C++ and C#?
